Maxspect LED owners!!!

Are they even the same corals? They may be the colonies that frags have come from?
They are much better photos but as has been said above, they just look like they are under actinics with a good quality macro lens.
I have found the colours really stand out on mine. The 30w whites tend to wash the colours out a little but they are only on for a few hours.
The only browning I have seen is from too much light when I played with the power and accidentally left the lights on full all day and night. The browning was limited to some pieces that have been suffering from poor conditions while I upgrade my tank.

As of right now I am thinkin it's not worth the extra 100 per model, but that's just my opinion. Someone with a kit might be able to answer that better.

I completely understand, and if it were me would also be unacceptable. Sorry that you would discredit a product because of, in your case, shotty customer service. My comments were simply trying to explain things from my point of view a bit. I was by no means saying that situations like yours are ok.

It's not just getting service.
Look back through the thread & you'll see this is FAR from my first issue.
I got them, one driver didn't work. Had to take it apart & tighten everything up to get it to work. Shoddy mechanical design.
Then I had the timer die. First 1 month stint with no light. Finally got it fixed.
Then I had an LED burn out. Another month for a replacement, all the while the fixture isn't usable because on my model, everything is in series.
Now I have another driver dead, and it's been out another month. Still not sure when this outage will get resolved.

I have had these lights maybe 8 months and they've been inoperable for probably 4 months of that time. Not a good track record.

I bought a unit with the group buy back in March. Everything worked when I first recieved it. I haven't set it up yet because I've been really slow in setting up my new tank. Anyway, a month or so ago I went to show a friend the light and the 3watt white LED's weren't working. I contacted Howard, the guy in charge of the group buy, and Brian from Fin's Reef. I heard back from both of them right away. Since Howard was in charge of the group buy, I went through him to take care of my problems. I feel that their customer service was absolutely top-notch. He answered every one of my emails within 12 hours, and most of them within an hour. He told me how to figure out what was wrong with it and we figured out that it was a faulty PCB. They instantly shipped me out a new one, and I recieved it about 10 days later (shipped from China). I was more than impressed with their customer service. If you are having problems with customer service, there is probably a reason. If you want, send me a PM and I'll give you the e-mail of the guy who helped me out, but he's not affiliated with Fin's Reef. So I'm not sure if he can help you out. I think that if you bought it from Fin's Reef you would have to go through them, but if not send me a PM.

I bought it from Howard in the group buy as well. Howard dealt with the previous issues but has now punted to Brian. Howard was quicker with email but, being in Hong Kong, it still took forever to get parts.

Brian used to respond quickly but has been MIA for some time now. I bought some red LEDs a month ago & haven't seen them either - no response to email queries either. Maybe they'll show up one day.

You think that's bad. I got stung by LCK led and was sent two faulty units then nothing after I returned both units. $700 and 6 months later I was advised by the card company that they could do nothing.
I ended up with two g2 160w later down the track and have been happy with them.
Best of luck with your dramas.

yeah i definitely feel for you and you have every right to be upset. I do think that no matter how good the product or service is, there is always a horror story here and there. I would say that you just came up short in all this and hope that things don't get any worse. If I head back up towards Brian and Eric's place then I will try to figure out exactly what is going on.

That is very unfortuneate. I understand why you would (probably should) be frustrated. I think with all the problems yours has had they should at least send you a new ballast/power box/timer.

First to me those colony are not the same in both pic
Also light type or brand on coral coral color is only a part of the equation you need low nutriment, stability, perfect parameter,experience........if I read in your previous post you here fighting with cyanoalgea, after I see you redo your complete aquascape, then you start Zeovith, add new pump, change light bulb then change to LED all in the last 2 month here are quote from you profil

having a headache with cyano and tried to use zeovit to control it but does not seems to be working well for me .

i have been dosing pcs with 8 drop of bak in the morning and night 8 drop of bak with zz.

the cyano got killed at night but the morning keeps coming up during the day .

i have changed my mh bulb. nothing seems to work

here is the rescaped tank

i feel i do not have enough flow , any comments on how to improve ?

one note here is that i kept my corals in the middle of the tank and i am using 4x2x2 here, does it really affect ?

it is kinda of disheartening that some of my corals are turning out like that ...... can it be due to the lighting ?

this is at the bottom of the tank

I think what everyone needs to understand is that this isn't a big opporation, lol. So I don't know if you have ever met Brian or been to his place, first of all it's in Shelby, NC which should tell you a bit right there, not necessarily a big place. Second, it's really just him and Eric in a small pet store/LFS, with maybe one or two other people that work for them as far as I know, some may be in high scool. To picture it better, if you live in the country go to your LFS, one way in the country that maybe have 3-4 employees, and picture that trying to turn out all these orders all over the country/world, and go to these trade shows to keep up with the hobby/promote the light.

I just wanted to try to explain that they are great people, with a great product, but I don't think their business hasn't quite caught up with their business. He just recently became the distributor with the past 6 months. Bare with them and you will not be disappointed in the end.

This is exactly the impression I had after talking with Brian. He was more than helpful to me and overall, my experience was positive. I may be ordering some optics from him after the new year and trust the positive experience will be maintained. Thanks for the clarification.

I'll be buying a Maxspect G2 230W soon for my 92 corner bow and was wondering if the cree upgrade is really worth it? I know i don't need the upgrade the lens due the the shape of the tank

TIA

Sid

I bought my g2.1 160w back in July. Everything has been working great up until this past week. The white channel stopped working. I opened up the driver box and found the wire connecting to the ground burnt up. Basically the plastic shielding was melting off. Then I looked at the LEDs.... Maybe it was a burnt up led.

The violet LEDs are burnt up. They got so hot they actually burnt a hole thru their plastic enclosure. I can actually see the spot on the acrylic shield where it's warped. Let me go home and get some pics up.

I did it

LED kit alone concentrate light in a narrower amazingly strong beam under the light. it is more for very deep aquarium. If you add the 60 degree lens the PAR is phenomenal under the light again be even narrower.

For 20-30 deep tank I my self prefer honeycomb diffuser I made a lot of PAR measurement and what they do is bring back all the light spill under a very nice cone who follow your rock aquascape up to the bottom of the aquarium but when I bring the PAR meter for example on the glass aquarium I have very little PAR. Oppose to the reflector kit alone the diffuser help blend the light to have no hot spot and be perfectly smooth all under the fixture. I found they increase PAR almost 3x all over under the fixture and about 2 time in the bottom front of the aquarium.

One thing very very important to understand with Maxspect stock or diffuser you need to use it close to water surface 2-3 inch maximum the lower the better. If not you loose the precious PAR. They have more wattage than most other LED fixture so if they use narrow reflector beam you will burn everything right under. There very hight wattage are design to cover a larger area without any hot spot under the fixture. I made some measurement if I raise the maxspect stock 8 inch on the surface I divide PAR by 3 at the bottom of the tank and spill the light in a very wide area.

Im french native and hope my english technical is clear enough to be understandable
