Maxspect LED owners!!!

So I'm starting to think that the G2 60W does not exist! I can't find anywhere where anyone has bought it used it and a single picture of what it look like over a tank.

I got my 3 G2-160 LEDs today got them all setup and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW I wish I would have done this a long time ago.

What size tank are you running them over and how do you have them orientated?
I would never go back to MH given how well the leds work.

I'm pretty sure mines a G2 60w. I changed a couple of blue bulbs to the cree on it. I got it about a month and a half ago.

I have been pretty happy so far with my G2-110. Have been thinking of adding some optics to help eliminate the bleed of light and allow me to hang the fixture a little higher. It's over a 20" square x 20" deep cube. So far so good however I may also look into some possible color changes. It looks a bit yellow with the white on. Wish I would have known about the G3 dimming function before I bought these though....

Where did you get it from? Brian from Fins Reef told me he will
ship my g2 110w last Friday and then give me the tracking number.
But today I am still waiting for his reply, even though I sent him a couple of email yesterday morning.
It's been one and a half month since I put my order. And now no lights,
and no reply whatsoever, I don't know what's wrong with my order.

Well somehow I don't think any of us would lose a lot of money if we decided to sell these units for a slightly dicounted price to get the new ones. There are a lot of people who would jump at it.

Has anyone had any algae bloom experiences with these lights? I was discussing lighting with someone and we were talking maybe there is a bit more red in these LEDs which might cause some algae issues.

I had a similar experience with Brian. He is tough to get a hold of. I called on a whim one day and he answered stating when it should arrive. It arrived as he stated it would.

I think what everyone needs to understand is that this isn't a big opporation, lol. So I don't know if you have ever met Brian or been to his place, first of all it's in Shelby, NC which should tell you a bit right there, not necessarily a big place. Second, it's really just him and Eric in a small pet store/LFS, with maybe one or two other people that work for them as far as I know, some may be in high scool. To picture it better, if you live in the country go to your LFS, one way in the country that maybe have 3-4 employees, and picture that trying to turn out all these orders all over the country/world, and go to these trade shows to keep up with the hobby/promote the light.

I just wanted to try to explain that they are great people, with a great product, but I don't think their business hasn't quite caught up with their business. He just recently became the distributor with the past 6 months. Bare with them and you will not be disappointed in the end.

I just heard from Brian about the order I placed on November 20th, looks like he is currently out stock on all the maxspect fixtures and mine aren't going to ship until around December 13th. He was quite nice about it though, and gave me a couple of options to make it up to me. Not sure which one I will go with just yet, but I do appreciate the gesture.

Of course, this makes it a bit tricky for me as I have a couple acro frags arriving on Thursday and I have doubts that my current PC fixture will keep them alive long enough for the LED's to arrive.

Best of luck to you Hans, as I know you are probably quite frustrated with the situation. Sorry to hear about your order, and I hope that this doesn't deter you from the fixtures as they are quite amazing. Like I stated before, as a warning in a way, I think their business has grown very fast very quick and they are just doing the best they can to keep up.

Frustrating, yes, but just in the fact that it's going to delay when mine arrive. I totally understand how tough it can be for a small business to deal with that kind of demand, I've been in his place before. My only REAL concern is keeping those acro's alive for 2 weeks or so. I'll have to try and make up a quickie rack to keep them as high in the tank as possible, probably like 2" deep under the PC's....... and I forget how much acrylic I have on hand.

hmm do you have a friend or lfs with a tank set up and lighting that can hold it for you?

All my local "tank buddies" are still doing the planted freshwater thing. I'm going to try a local forum to see what I may be able to find for a babysitter.

Worst case, I've also got a couple CFL spotlights I use for my scale model photography that can add in as a temporary supplement, IIRC they are in the 8k-10k color range. Definitely sub-optimal, but I prefer to have a few backup plans. I've got two days to figure it out.

30W LED's on 160's

30W LED's on 160's

Hello All,

I am running two G2160's over my 90gal tank, I have been very very happy with the purchase so far. I am another that will not go back to MH's.
For a mixed reef with some SPS how long do you run the 30W's for. Right now I have my lights on for 10 hours with the 30W running for 5. I did not want to burn any corals but I would like to get the best growth I can. Any opinions would be appreciated.

If anything you would be helping the coral out by slowly ramping up the lighting. Keep the water parameters stable and things will be fine for a few weeks.

bro what is your photo period ?

I have two of the 160w units over my 4x2x2 and love it!
