Maxspect LED owners!!!

the little buttons have to be turned off on the power supply, once the timer is set they will turn on and off with the timer but if the buttons are pressed and manually turned on it wont shut off

I confirmed the clock was set correctly and set the timers to;

Blues - 7:00-23:00
3W Whites - 8:00-20:00
30W Whites - 11:00-14:00

Still nothing, I've re-entered the settings several times and unplugged the unit to no avail. I was hoping there was some option to turn on the timers that I might have missed.

I was hoping this was a user-error problem, but I'm beginning to wonder if the unit if defective :(

Bummer man on the timers. Not sure what it could be outside of the settings. Does not sound right for sure since they are so easy to set.

Also it is odd all three channels are not working with the timer. Each one has it's own relay so something is not right.

I can't seem to get the timer to work. I've set the clock and confirmed the on/off times for each light group but the timer doesn't function, The lights manully turn on/off fine.

I've read through the directions several times - Is there something that I'm missing or that needs to be done to activate the timer?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know if this makes any difference. I have to set the minute first before the hour even though the user guide says to set the hour than minute. Press and hold the Timer button for at least 2-3 sec to enter the timer program mode. When you are done, press the Mode button to save the program. The manual said to press Timer button which didn't work for me.

Good luck!

Has anyone put optics on there maxspect? And where to buy optics for the simileds? I was thinking of putting some 60 degree optics on the outer LEDs and then maybe 80 degrees on the inner. Not sure mine really needs it. Just thought it would be interesting to try it. Also not a big diy guy or else I probably would have built my own fixture. Any advice? Thanks

An optic lens is only held on by friction to the LED. If you can find one that fits the diameter of the semileds, it is doable. You will have to drill bigger holes on the reflector shield where the optic lens will be protruding thru the shield. Because there is not much space between the splash shield and the LEDs, you probably have to remove the splash shield to install the optics. Which also means you will have to raise the Maxspect higher from the water surface to keep the unit dry. But by raising the fixture higher, you spread the light beam wider which defeats the purpose of using the optics to begin with.

Thanks Simon - I noted the same about the instructions being backward.

I tried everything yesterday to get the timer functioning to no avail - so I unplugged them overnight. This morning, I plugged them back in and the timer functions?!? :)

No clue what the cause was, just hoping It was a one-time thing.

Does anyone have a link to where i can get the CREE version? Also, does anyone know the degration on the Semileds and the 30W?

Glad to hear! I know the timer settings saved automatically. It could be the controller has to cycle through before the timer programs start to work.

An observation - The hanging kit supplied with the G2-160W (not sure if all are the same) provides for a max 66" inch drop which should be sufficient for most but...If you have taller ceilings and/or a shorter tank (of which I have both) you may need to find an alternate solution.

question!

question!

im currently setting up a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank which is about 120 US gallons.

what model of the maxspect LEDS should i get and how many? i was planning on keeping LPS and soft corals only!

Hi everyone!
ive read this topic and found really interesting
i have one question,
for a mix tank 85x50x55h (cm) the G2-170 it's ok or maybe better the 230?

I think a 170 would do just fine or whatever the 32" long unit is without the 30w leds since your tank is only 21 deep. Just keep sps up around the 18" mark in the tank or higher.
