Maxspect LED owners!!!

Just a word of warning to anyone buying from Lckled. After five months, two faulty units, two lots of return postage costs and over 50 emails( most of which went unanswered), I have been told by maxspect that lck is an outstanding account.
I have started notifying paypal and the CCard company etc.
I have no light and no more patience. This has cost me overAUD$700 for nothing.

I was up late last night around 3am and decided to check up on the tank and my g2-230w's 3w white LED group was mysteriously on when it was supposed to be off by 23pm. Anyone else had seen this issue?

Finksmart, I have not had any issues with my G2-230w since I set the timers, no drifting, no surprize lighting schedules.... What I have noticed is some defects developing under all of the 30w on the splashguard. Are you having this same issue? How long have you been set up?

So I take it you have power outages monthly or something? I average maybe 1 a year, I think I can live with it turning on if the power goes out.

believe or not I do have power outages monthly (especially now in summer season with thunderstorms).. Last thing I want to happen during middle of night, while I am sleeping and my tank is in my bedroom :( Not fun at all. I am only hoping that some day Maxspect will release some better power controller with more options..

ps. Had a lot of problems with my Reef Keeper Lite and my Maxspect unit to work together.. from some reason my temp. sensor on my RKL went crazy when I connected Maxspect to any of the power outlets in my bedroom, where I have my tank as well. Had to put power extension cord from other room to connect Maxspect and now all works great.. When it was all hooked up at the same room, temp. on my RKL would jump from 78.8 to 79.2F constantly and my heater would go crazy ON and OFF. (my temp. is set for 79F.) I am not sure what was wrong.. Also my speakers from my TV would make a static noise at the same time. I guess it must have something to do with the electrics etc..

I can only say that BLUE LEDs are amazing on this unit.. the rest, well I am still getting use to it.. so far so good. I did put some of CREE leds I ordered to try. Also have some optics, but looks like this is going to be more than enough than I need. Time will show.

I'm curious, how did you fit the plexiglass splash shield over the lenses? Taking a look at my unit, it looks like there is only a few mm space between the LED and the splash shield (G2-160W)

That's correct the splash guard will not fit in the original location. I put the splash guard to where the side brackets, that hold the tank mount, are holding the splash guard in place. It works pretty good. If you tighten the screws on the side of the fixture, it acts like a clamp and tightens down the splash guard. If that makes sense. The only thing, is that the splash guard is very flimsy. So I had to put zip ties to hold the middle straight. My plan was to have a piece of glass, the same size as the splash guard, and replace the guard with a piece of glass. I think it would work, just haven't got around to getting the glass.

On another note. I noticed tonight that my rock looks like I'm bleaching the top rock. Is that possible to bleach the live rock? I don't really notice to much during the day. But when the moonlights come on. The top rock looks like it's turning white. Also I have some macro on my rocks, and they seem to be getting losing color. Is this possible ? At first I thought it might be going asexual, but now I'm starting to think it's the light. I'm wondering if it's because of the optics. I'm going to raise the fixture a little more and also I'm going to start running the 30w light just 1 hr each. If I need to. I'm going to just not run the 30 w LEDs and see how it works.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

that is such a great idea.. I really like it and would never thought about that..If I ever decide to do it, I will just go to Lowe's and have them cut for me glass which would fit, instead of plexi. At this point I am going to wait with getting more optics and see how my corals are reacting to this light without them.. My tank is 20" tall and my light is about 4" above water surface.. so it should be all good.. I noticed, when I put optics (40 degrees) on one of the cree leds, how great the light was concentrated when I pointed it on wall. So the optics are working nicely.. but I would hate to bleach corals so I will wait.

I might though, buy more of 3W Cool White XP-G CREE LED with 5000-8,300K color temperature. I got one just to try it and maybe it is me, but it looks much brighter comparing to rest of SemiLEDs.

I am not suprised. Their email customer service sucks. Try Fish Street they sell Maxspect as well. They also have two other LED lights to choose from.

I have spoken to Eric from fishstreet and as always he has been helpful and even offered wholesale if it would help. Maxspect sounds like they have come to the party also and I think have offered a very good price to make amends. I need to get a reply on this offer from maxspect to make sure. The rest will be upto the credit card company and paypal.
LCK have removed the maxspect from there catalogue now.

I bought my unit from Fish-Street and their customer service was excellent and the unit shipped ASAP with four day delivery from Asia.

Love your work with the mounts.
Has anyone ordered through LCKled? I'm having trouble contacting them about my order. Weeks have gone by with several emails.

they took my money, a few grand for 6 weeks and sent nothing. It was a pain in the rear to get my money back. They kept saying they would refund it and would not because they didn't have enough in thier paypal account. DO NOT order from this scam artist. Go to fish street.

Any one has one of these newer generation G2 with cree XP-G leds?

I have seen a custom built 160W by Maxspect with the following color scheme. Pretty interesting combination with 4x 15W instead of 2x 30W. Also 2x 3W red LEDs add a tint of red. What is interesting is Maxspect's willingness to experiment and even to custom build according to customer's preference.

I've had mine for almost three months and everything looks great except for my ORA Red Planet which bleached-- I don't think it liked being at the top under the 30 Watters.

Some of you have had your fixtures over your tanks for a few months now. How do your corals look?

Sorry for the blurry picture, but wanted to share. I finally got my new tank built tonight & hung the dual 110's over it. The hanging hardware is actually very functional. I haven't figured out a good way to deal with the cords coming out of the back yet, though. Water is still foggy because I just finished filling it & added some new live rock to start the cycle.

Just a thought and please do correct me if I am wrong in my way of thinking. Is the 30w led a good thing or bad, I mean would it be better to get the 110w or the 160w even for say deep tanks. I know that heat is the big no no with leds and how long they last. I have notice in the thread a few people say that where the 30w led is there have been bulbing or crazing in the slash guard. I have also seen mention of really reducing the time the 30w is on. Also I have been paying attention to other led fixtures out there and most are still only staying with the 3w leds. I have been on the fence about getting into leds or not and I really like this fixture mainly the price. I am just thinking along the beg reason we all want to get into leds is the how long the bulb last with needing replacement. So is this unit really design to handle the heat of the 30w or is it even good to get one with a 30w. I guess though also on the grand scheme of things what are the replacement cost of the bulbs if needed.
Thanks.

Here's a new picture now that the water is clear & I have played with the rock scape some. This is "pretty close" to the true color of the 110's. I'll have my photographer wife take some color balanced pics one day.

... would it be better to get the 110w or the 160w even for say deep tanks.

The 110's are great over my 16" tank. I would certainly want 160's over my 75 gallon, 21" tank. I tried the 110's over it & the bottom is too dark for my taste.

The other way to go is to use a fixture with optics, like the AI.

Ive got 2 of the g1 fixtures over my 6' tank. Small dead spot in the middle, but I have low light corals there anyways so no biggie to me. I also have some supplemental VHO's

heres the tank when it had 20k radiums

and now with LED's. Its been about a month and all corals are doing just fine.

Some random thoughts:

For my tank/set up, I would consider 2x110w because it would provide more LED over my tank compared to the 170w version. It would also provide a slight fail proof as surely BOTH units would not fail at once.

Along those lines brings me to the very reason I would be hesitant to purchase these units. I'd be very hesitant to purchase a product made in China that isn't sold in the USA. It's a difficult decision to balance out.

The 2x110w units would not be all that much more price wise than a 10 bulb T5 set up.

Of course, I won't set up my tank until I get out of my apartment & into a house (which is on the Spring 2011 calendar. By then these will have an established reputation for what they are worth. There may very well be an upgrade in their product as well.

I've enjoyed keeping up with the thread.
