Maxspect LED owners!!!

Hi Guys,

My MH's need to be replaced. Wondering where you guys ordered your Maxspects from? All i can find is fish-street.com. Is there a more mainstream site to purchase from?

Do they not have US distributors?

Sorry for all the questions. Ive been away from the scene for a while and want to get some LEDs for the tank Im reviving.

Thanks,
Rich

I believe Fish-Street is the certified dealer to purchase these units. I have read good things about their customer service.

Excellent service for a HK company.

Delivered 5 days later.

I am very pleased with the product.

I will post some pics of the light and the new setup soon.

G-170 Purchase

G-170 Purchase

Ok....
So after much research i decided to purchase the G-2 170
I ordered the unit from fishstreet. Shipped and delivered quickly this is what arrived...
A very well packed box with a light, cord, ballast, support rails and hanging accessory's.
Overall I would say the unit arrived in good condition.
After a through inspection i did find a few screws and parts which were loose. these were tightened with screwdriver and presented no further problems.
As you can see the 170 has only 3w white, blue and purple LEDS.
I decided against the 30w white and i am glad i did........:hmm1:

G-2 170

G-2 170

... after connection the cords I fired up the unit...
The light was much brighter that i had expected and was almost painful to look at directly.
The 170 has three groups of LED's which you can control..
Group 1 is all the Royal Blues
Group 2 is half the whites and the 8 purples
Group 3 is the remaining whites
When these three groups are off the 4 moonlights automatically pop on.
I found the instructions pretty easy to understand.. there is one mistake re: the mode button but it was easy to figure out....

My new setup!!!
Same 4x 65w CF
New G-2 170w LED
I had to cut two holes in the lid of my canopy for the fans (which are whisper quiet)
I also had to install a third fan on the side of the canopy due to the amount of heat generated by all those lights in such a small space.
The G-2 was secured to the lid using stainless steel straps...

Looks awesome!

What kind of power source does it need. Do they come with the US plugs or is everyone using an adapter for these?

How long did it take to get here?

Thanks,
Rich

Alright Im gonna take the plunge.

Couple of last questions,

What is the cree version?
What other version is there, semi? Whats the difference?

Thanks,
Rich

Cree version stands for CREE Brand LEDs used in this fixture.
Semi is the other LED brand they originally started with.

I believe th CREE version just have CREE XP-G's so that means the CREE LEDs are just the 3 Watt whites and it comes with Semi LED Blues and violets. Don't know about the 30 watters. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong

The Cree also comes with four 15watt LED's around 16-18k
Really??? I have no reason not to believe you... but Fish-Street states "customer change it to DIY". Led me to believe they would send you the Cree LED & you had to change them out yourself.

I take it the Cree + 15w LED is a custom build - perhaps requiring custom order??? Thru Fish-Street??? Any pics of a set up w/ this exact build?

CREE's are expensive. Compare $3.50 for a Semi Vs $6 (the cheapest) for a Q5 CREE Cool White or even more for a XP-G (around $7.19) that adds up some cash

I agree but the 160w fixture only has 14 Semi whites that are replaced with the XP-Gs and they are only using Bin 3 from what I understand. That's an additional $15.72 per XP-G (bin 3).

L.E.D. lighting

L.E.D. lighting

Checking out led lighting . When some one tells you they have a 3 watt led or a 30watt led , its is only telling you how much power it is using . Not the power output . Lumens are the light output . You only need high kelvin rating for deep tanks . One day they will get the l.e.d right . How much will you really save on the electric bill ? L.E.D is the future . They have come a long way .
