Maxspect Mazarra.

Can anyone tell me the preset photoperiod time points and also the intensities of each channel? I have no idea because it definitely doesn't look like the one they have pictured in the instruction manual?

I have mine currently set to my own program on P2, but would like to use the Preset one, but it looks like it is just set on 100% on all channels at all times for the Preset mode. Programming time points is a fairly easy affair, but it would be nice to figure out what the preset time points and intensities are since on mine it seems to be 100% on all channels...

Here's a few more pics w/ 100 degree optics, like I said, much better and I think w/ third unit, will really fill out the tank... the only issue I feel is that I'm missing some of the green/teal flourescence as one of my corals which had really nice teal tips looks rather bland under the new light, but maybe that will change with time.

So, as you can see pretty neat looking and coverage is much better. Less heat, less fan noise and pretty solid spread from these tiny units. The units are roughly 9" x 9", but densely packed and quite solid in construction.

A neat thing is that although you can only set 8 time points for each program, the intensity does not just jump from one timepoint to the next, it slowly ramps up or down depending on the next time point so you don't get a sudden jump in intensity from one time point to the next.

Cheers,
John

rufio173,

Thanks so much for being a Guinea Pig for the rest of us. This is the #1 reason I didn't believe the hype and decided to wait a few more years until this is more mainstream and things are figured out more. No thanks, I'll stick to my 150 watt 14,000k MH and two actinic T5HO over my 24x24x24" 60 gallon cube for a while longer. I tried LEDs, I burned all my LPS while my SPS thrived.

Looks like a big difference between the 70 and 100 degree optics. The coverage looks better and appears to have more blue like your Mh set up. I ordered a quad module for my 70 gallong high. The tank is 36x 27 x 18. Judging from your coverage on a 48" tank with 2 modules I am feeling the quad is an overkill for my tank. However I plan on upgrading to a 300 gallon in the near future so will be needing to buy more lights . I have a DIY LED set up but it would look aesthetically unpleasent next to the mazarra.

Looks great!

I'm getting excited and can't wait till mine arrives. Ordered from salty supply and they told they should be receiving another shipment end of this week.

Can you please advise John, is the top photo using 2x 250w HQI + 2x 54w T5 = 608Watts

And the bottom pic is 120watt LED?

If this is the case, all I can say is WOW - thats 80% power savings!!

Kind regards,
George

Yes, you are correct. ;)

But, I really would like the third LED module as that will probably give roughly equal coverage to my previous lighting schema.

I am happier w/ the 100 degree optics, although honestly given the that LEDs are PAR beasts, I could probably go wider on the optics w/out sacrificing growth, but we will see. I really wish I had an apogee light meter.

It'd be easy to switch my lighting out, since I just suspended my MH setup higher above the LED lights, so I could I just drop them down for a quick PAR comparison at different spots in tank. I'd really love to see what the PAR is one the outskirts of the tank.

Cheers,
John

Um.... Yeah. :) Hehe, I think the 100 degree optics would cover you for that tank w/ 2 units and w/ 70 degree optics w/ 3 units. I imagine at that depth w/ 70 degree optics, you could easily keep SPS at the bottom of the tank and possibly fry an egg.

But then again, these are modular and you can always add on more for larger tanks. I really hope they figure out a cleaner wire management system as I feel when you are paying this much money for a lighting solution, keeping it clean looking becomes a larger priority.

John

I somewhat agree, but I think this is a pretty good time to jump in... you've gotta realize that this is a super new product that is hot off the presses so will have a few bumps in the road before you hit the clear paved highway of product perfection. Growing pains for the this LED product, but even now the product is very tunable, which i think can make adjusting the intensity for LPS and SPS a lot easier to do. It's pretty hard to have this amount of control w/ MH. I think that ultimately w/ controllable intensities, you can find a happy medium for the type of corals you would like to keep in your reef, whether it be full out SPS, SPS/LPS, of a mix of SPS/LPS/softies. It really is all about setting up zones in the tank for each respective group of corals and even then, each specific coral will require its own specific set of parameters which will make it happy... the best we can do is ballpark it most of the time. Hehe

height dimensions of frame mount

height dimensions of frame mount

Rufio, can you provide some dimensions of the frame mount? I'm particularly interested in the height from the trim on the tank to the top of the frame mount and from the top of the tank to the bottom of lights assuming they are level. I ordered five modules for my 72"x18"x24" 135 and I need to build a new canopy. I probably will not use the frame mount despite ordering one but I would like to hang my lights at the same height and need to build the canopy to accommodate. Thanks

Im also interested but might only get 4 modules! We have the exact same tank size!

Nice Light , The halide look was smoking .Kind of hard to beat that . Maybe the leds will grow on you .
