Maxspect Mazarra.

what about folks with 24" and deeper tanks. will the par reach that far?

yes it will; you were reading the graph incorrectly. Its showing par at a depth of 20 inches spread out over a certain area. Where it says 0 that area was out of the units reach.; meaning to far to the left or right and not too deep.

I hope mine arrives this week (2nd group with Salty Supply.) I was just showing some of the pics on this thread to my wife and her first comment was, "Why does that tank have handicapped bars on top of it?"

Hey Chris, Happy to hear your having good luck with your set up. Overall, im disappointed with mine. When everything was working well I was able to look past some initial issues but not anymore. I didnt get any cables. Today the wireless controller stopped working and and one LED light stopped working as well. I spent all Sunday trying to get the controller to work. Im planning on returning mine.

This is tough because I'm really looking to jump into led's with this unit but I'm feeling like your really not liking it so far. Any thoughts that it's just minor human/mechanical errors in the first shipment? I'm still on pre-order with marine depot who should get their first shipment in a week or so.

Oh no you didn't!!! Haha. I don't feel like the frame mount is a huge issue for me. I have hung my fixtures before but honestly the frame mount is fairly light, svelte and not a huge intrustion above a tank. I don't think it takes away from the aesthetic sensibilities from the setup... then again, if you are hard core rimless set up you will not like the frame mount, but the unit is easy very easy to hang, but you have to balance the setup based on module placement.

Cheers,
John

Look AI still the best choose. more reliable.

The new Maxpect is also too expensive compare with the old model( only 60W output for new one, old model 110W($300)/160W($400).

I had a chance to look at the Mazarra's this weekend and wasn't overly impressed.
What I liked:
Controller looked sharp and included an owner's manual!
Mounting system looks sturdy, very modular and simple.
4 Channel intensity control for led is cool.
Cree XM-L's look very bright, should give high par numbers.
What I didn't like:
Build quality is not there yet, machining not perfect and faceplate is made out of plastic. It looks too plasticy?
Wire connectors aren't as robust as they look in photos, but do have a rubber o-ring to keep moister out.
Overall, the silver color doesn't do it for me, maybe the black version will look better.

I'm sticking w/ my AI's for now.

BTW, TBAquatics has a few in stock along w/ the AI's:

I have become somewhat nervous about putting 2 of these modules over my 76 gal. half-circle, especially since I want them mounted inside the canopy (5" above water). I don't see how I can avoid spotlighting even with the 100 degree optics. After seeing the first pics, I'm considering canceling my order and going with the AI sol's instead. I'm not sure!

I think the first production run of any product is going to suffer growing pains. Im sure AI had some issues early on. I know personally that tunze had issues with the 6025 early on. These things are expected (at least for me). In the end, Companies like AI and Tunze fix the issues and take care of the customers who had issues. The dealings that i have had with Maxspect and the vendors of Maxspect have been very positive. They are doing all the right things to accomodate the customer. Im going to trade the silver in for a black one.

I have never had LEd lights before and im really blown away by the glitter lines . I think it looks better than glitter from metal halides. I feel the mazarra is going to be a strong competitor for AI and others in this price point. They just have some kinks to work out.

Spotlighting with 100 degree optics? How?

I'm using 70 degrees optics on my Maxspect G2, mounted 4" above water, and I don't see any spotlight.

I've ordered my set of Mazarra, delivery date is set to September, tbh can't wait to get my hands on them :)

There is no spotlighting w/ 100 degree optics! :)
