Yes. Start at half intensity and adjust upwards every day unless you see signs of stress.
The light looks awesome.

I am liking the color now that my phto period is up to max which is blues-85% and whites 35%. My sol's are at blue 52%, royal blue 45% and whites at 25%. The razor has a crisper light but I need to have it ramped up higher to some what match the sol blue's intensity. The blues are 13" above the tank and the Razor is 6" above the tank. So far I like the color and will probably raise them to the same height as my sol's.

What Automatic settings do you guys have it set to? My mid day is for only 4 hours at 60% White and 60% Blue. I feel if I go up to high I might get algae or bleach the corals. I use to have 2 150 watt 14k Mh bulbs over a 46 bowfront. My pink Monti is not as pink since using this fixture. I just lowered it today from 70% A & B to 60% A & B. The fixture is sitting on the tank.
I would like to get the tank a little brighter but still keep the blue and now have algae issues or bleach the corals. What do you guys think. I have a 46 bowfront that I had for 5 years a Sunpod with 2 150 watt 14K MH bulbs.
Mike de Leon, Haven't raised mine yet but I did have to tune it down from 80% blue, 55% white to 60% blue and 35% white. Couple of my corals didn't like the high setting at 7.5" above the tank. I have some dark areas also but will be raising the fixture to 13" above my tank which is what my sol's are at. I have dialed in now to the look that I had with my Pheonix HQI 150w MH bulbs I ran a couple of years ago. A nice ice blue color.
How is this fixture comparable to a 6 bulb t5 fixture over a 40r (36x15x17)? my whole tank is lit with no dark spots. I have ample lighting in which once my corals grow out to massive colonies there will be no dead spots. I am having trouble buying this fixture because I feel it won't cover the tank completely like my 6 bulb fixture does. Can anyone chime in. I really want to go LEDs, but I don't think this fixture can cover the whole tank. please feel free to help decide to wait for a future fixture or go ahead and buy because I won't be let down. I love the cost, energy efficiency and programable timer included with sunrise/sunset; That really can't be beat!
This is my tank lit with t5. I want bright!![]()

If you go with the 27" Razor you will have to dial down to maybe 50% for a gradually ramp up. With it at 50% white and blue it will not be nearly as bright. If you go much higher you run the risk of bleaching the sps. I went upto %70 A & B and my pink monti was getting a little light in color so I went back down to 45% white and 50% blue for 4 hours a day plus some dawn, dusk lighting of maybe 20%. It will cover the entire tank though just not as bright at first. If you hang the fixture then you will get even better coverage maybe you can ramp up the lighting a little faster. Mine is still sitting on the tank but will be hung soon. Hope this helps! Also the color overall is a little more on the purple/blue side I think.
Your new led Razor fixtures looks so styling...how is the moonlight? Can you comments on the moonlight?
yes this does help. I hope their are more pictures in helping me choose, between 16k and 10k because i like a 14k spectrum. Im having a hard time with the 16k because If i have to dial back the white spectrum, i hope the light stays intense enough for the whole length of the tank. in the picture my camera balance is off, but my tank is really white. If i raise the fixture higher to get a better spread im worried with intensity and color at that point. with, t5 the color is in the bulb combo and light spread is already there, and I just raise or lower for intensity. with led I will have to raise the unit much higher because of the spread, in which might render the intensity. with the 10k I am worried of the tank being too white, thus dimming down the white spectrum, and then all of a sudden it not being intense enough for my coral and vice versa with the blue 16k. of course there will be shocks in corals due to light change so ramping up over time is as usual. anyone follow me? any suggestions!
i think worrying will eventually kill you:lolspin:
I have raised mine to about a foot. I had concerns of losing intensity. That concern was quickly diminished when I saw how strong the lighting is at that height. I had a 400 watt Radium over my tank. Imagine how bright that was. The new light is just as bright. Even with the height the light does not spill over and even bother my eyes.
You cannot compare T5, LED and MH. They will all be different. However, from my own very little experience on the LED (at least, the Razor), Led is closer to MH. Shimmer and the crisp white colour. You will have some shadows like MH but consistent colour all over. With T5, no shadows at all but colour is not consistent. You will see blue under the blue bulb and purple under the purple bulb etc. Again, this was my own experience. I did have an 8 bulb 80 watt Sfiligoi on a 160 gal custom tank.
The Razor will have it's own colour rendition that is outstanding. And I think you will like it. Especially the blue that you will use at night before the lights totally shut down. It's where you would normally use actinic. The difference is the blue/purple has par and the spectrum that you need to grow corals. The fluorescence is out of this world.
I personally like the 16000 for adjustability options. You can adjust to any colour you want.
If there's anything to worry about with LED, read what others are talking about in terms of colour spectrum and how this unit compares to others. In the long haul that's what would really matter. Good luck. I am, so far, happy with my purchase.
Tank is 36 X 24 X 20. No new pics.I appreciate it, so any more pictures of the new fixture above the tank at a foot high? I would really like to see more!!and what are the dimensions of your tank as well? im hoping to buy this weekend!
I'm about to bite the bullet on one of the Razor units...trying to decide between the 10K and 16K versions. I really don't like a blue tank but prefer a color dialed a hair past crisp white if that makes sense. I know there adjustability, but it doesn't make sense if I'm not getting the right color at full power. I found a Japanese website that has a video of the 16K unit and it appears it's thecolor I'm looking for. For those with the 16K unit, does it look similar to in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk9OVwuIgH4&feature=related
Thanks,
