May 2016, Reefer of the Month---Bent!

I've always had aquariums growing up and I started my first saltwater tank back in the mid to early nineties as a teenager. Back then the Internet was in its infancy and information was not as easily accessible as it is today, so I went through a lot of trial and error and many trips to the local library.
In my college years thanks mainly to living in, what was essentially, glorified closets for years, my aquarium interests were placed on hold. After college I bought a home, settled in and I was finally able to "dive" back in. My quest for information led me to the reef central forums where I was so generously helped by the community.

What I love most about reef keeping is the challenge it offers. It is one of the few hobbies that combines equal parts of science, engineering and art. It allows the left brain and the right brain to work together to solve a problem. I've always had a interest in all three of those things. I originally graduated with a bachelors degree in art, before going back to school to obtain my RN and eventually my Family Nurse Practictioner. So even my professional careers intersect at the intersection of science and art.

Being able to use the knowledge graciously gifted to me by other members to help people get started in this hobby or bypass some of the frustrations I delt with in my early fledgling attempts gives me a sense of satisfaction that those people will one day return the favor and continue to make RC the number one reef keeping forum on the web.

Humble thanks,

Ben

Thanks for all you have contributed to making Reef Central what it is.

Description of RC ROTM:

In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to "premium" for one year and you will be entered in a raffle along with the other recipients each year to win a special prize to be determined.

We look forward to honoring one person, each month, by highlighting them on the Reef Central homepage. This will include a recent photograph of yourself, or your avatar if you prefer not to show your actual face, along with what you love about the hobby of reef keeping and why you have chosen Reef Central to be your home. Each month the face and paragraph of the ROTM will change, but you can forever hold the honor of knowing that you were one of the chosen few to have earned this title and our respect as a member in great standing.

Best Regards,

The RC Staff
