Mazzei Injector Protein Skimmer

No skimmer on the LR tub... I'll probaly pull my prism off and hang it in there...
Bigger tub??? Hmm... not much more room in bedroom.
Definately gonna be a ton of foam if I throw it in the tub now...

Guys,

I am an OEM wholesaler for Mazzei and have a good understanding of the pumps and injectors. The two best injectors are the 784 Kynar which can handle up too 650 gph and the 585 1/2 or 3/4, which can handle 500 gph.

Could you tell me what the 684 is rated for? I have a 3/4 inch.

Tagging along, hoping for VERY detailed pictures of Lunchbuckets new skimmer. I'm a newbie but very intriqued by the mazzei design.... Once I finish the stand, the skimmer is next, so the timing is perfect...

Didn't think it would be a big deal, the amount of curing is minimal I'm sure, since it was cured and only outta water maybe 20 mins...

But since I can't sleep tonight, (almost 4am here, work is gonna be a killer tommorow) and Lunch is gonna freak out, I hooked it up. Didn't fit in the tub, so I've got the main chamber in the sump which is empty, and the mag in the tub. I rigged up a temperoray hose to have the output back in the tub....
Seems to be working pretty well. Waterlevel doesnt seem to affect the skimmer much, of course the final test will be when its really hooked up.

I'll leave it on tonight, and if theres still no leaks tommorow morning I'll leave it running. Because the sump isn't hooked up to anything anything more than about 2.5 inches of water in there will start to go to carpet, so I'm a bit worried about letting it run like this.

I'll post new pics tommorow.

LOL - don't mean to make you loose sleep :D sorry man

bulkhead - i WILL post a TON of pictures when i get the stuff...should be late next week...so hopefully over the weekend

Naw, I just couldnt sleep which is when I saw your post....
I don't think there is enough gunk in the tub either... Only about 20 #'s of walt smith in there, so not much rock... Looks like the skimmer pulled out most of what was there already... I set the water level a little bit higher, and I'll do a water change today in my nano and dump the waste water in the tub and see if it changes anything.

T SANDMAN, Will you tell us this injections rated for?

584 (3/4")
684 (3/4")
784 (3/4")
878 (1")
978 (1")
1078(1")

Thanks in advance

Also for those already with venturi skimmers, I did read a few threads while I was researching of ppl who places their cheap or kent venturis with a Mazzei and got much better performance out of their skimmer.

I actually used a Kent venturi and the difference was noticable. Though the Kent venturi more than half the price, it still did not do the job compared to the Mazzei. Actually Jeff at Lifereef makes his own valves in the 24 inch model and sells the valves for $15.00 per unit, which do as good as a job as the Mazzei.

Actually, no I can't. ir330s is the person who knows the deal with these things. I was asking about the 684 myself. That's the one I have and it ran great with a turbothruster(circa 1992) pump. Now I will be using a iwaki 70rlt or something like that and I want to know if it is compatible.

The Iwaki 70RLT is an excellent pump rated at 1500 gph. The maximum flow rate for the 684 and the 784 is around 900 gph. A Mag 9.5 or a Mag 7 is just fine. The injectors are made to run on low PSI. Everybody thinks using a high psi pump is better but not nessarily. It only stresses out the pump. Not matter what size pump is being used, the 684 will only allow a maximum of 900 gph thru the injector. Hope this helps out.

Regards,

Andrew

ir300s.... How about this injectors? what are they rated for? What pump would it work? Thanks in advance....

878
978
1078

Both the 878 and 978 1'' inch injectors handle 1200 gph and 1280 gph respectfully. The 1078 is a monster 1'' inch which handles a massive 1800 gph. All three are great models but VERY EXPENSIVE.

I looked at those two site for the Mazzei injectors. The prices are good. I actually called both sites but the tech. support is alright. That is after getting hung up a few times and waiting forever. Most customer's and Mazzei support folks I talk too, really like the Mag drive and Little Giant pumps because of size, cost, quality and most important functionality. Have a nice weekend. Please feel free and e-mail if anyone has questions.

Do the Mazzei's still have the one way valve built into the air injector? I took mine out years ago, this "greatly" increased the air input.

On most of the injectos Mazzei still have it. The modification does increase air flow but MAZZEI STATED ANY MODIFICATION TO THE INJECTOR will void the warranty.

I bought mine 8 to 10 yrs ago, so I couldn't tell you what model it is, just a 3/4" powered my a March AC-4C-MD. Works fabulous. The skimmer is a knock off of the Marine Technical Concepts Power Pro.
