MBZ's Photo Thread

Thank so much Mark. I have been doing a lot of reading as of late but some of the manual lingo may as well be in Greek. This does help though. It gives me a few things to try out. Thanks for taking the time to post the tips. It's much appreciated.

I'm glad I could help. I use an old program called Photoshop Elements 4, the latest is PE 7. I have PE 6, but I'm so used to the older version that I rarely use it. I'll have to make some notes on how I run a picture through PE 4. It's really simple and takes all of 5 minutes to photo shop a picture from start to finish.

Here's some more pictures.

i dont know which is more impressive...the fact that you have such an amazing collection of livestock...or the fact that you take such amazing photos of them!

Thanks for the comments. I picked up some of my prized corals when I used to work for an online coral store here in DFW. I've always had an interest in photography. Now I can combine my two favorite hobbies; reefing and making pictures.

Beautiful shots, I like them even more because your photo credit is in the corner and not across the freaking pictures.

lol. I've had people say that my watermark is too big and distracts from the photos, even in the corners. I do understand about some people watermarking across their pictures as I've caught people using my pictures to sell their own coral without my consent. Not cool!

Mark - all great shots! What is the name of this coral? I think I have this one but am unsure of the name. Did you get it from WWC?

Unbelievable photography!

Craig

Thanks Craig. I got that favia from Vivid Aquariums. They call it an Alien Moon Favia. It's funny you mentioned that one, I just moved it near another favia yesterday and it got stung on one side. I'm sure it will recover. If you ever visit Los Angeles, you need to check out Vivid's store. One of my favorites!

Thanks Mark! Yep, I've got that one too. I mentioned WWC but Vivid is definitely where I got if from now that you say it. I have mine in a very wierd place in the tank and it's difficult to get a shot of. Here is mine (under actinics). Not to hijack the thread or compete with your photography skills by any means: ) I've always had trouble id'ing it because it looks nothing like the pic on vivid's site IMO. It's one of my fav's too. I appreciate your help with the id...

Mark, It's cool to see your skills as a photographer progress through this thread. There's such a progression from the first pics taken 15mo's ago to the ones you just posted. Keep up the good work :)

Craig, your favia looks the same to me. I remember that I had a hard time getting the colors right with that picture. I always try to get the colors as I see them.

Jeff, I really appreciate your comment. I was a bit nervous at first about posting on Reefcentral because I've seen some photographers get seriously critiqued. Before I started this thread I started another photo thread in my local club DFWMAS. I'm embarrassed at some of my earlier pictures but leave them up to show my progression skills. I think when I upgraded my photo equipment my photos improved. There are a lot of great photographers on RC and I love learning more about photography from them.

What shutter speed were you using in the first set of pics?
