Mccullochi Pseudochromis - Cypho purpurescens

Does anyone have experience with a Mccullochi Pseudochromis, also called an oblique lined basslet or dottyback?

I kept one several years ago, obtained from Marine Center. Very secretive for a pseudo.... but also aggressive. Kept it's colors nicely for almost 3 years.... and behaved well with fish bigger than him.

Went carpet surfing one day.... unfortunately.

Beautiful fish, but without a nice disposition to match. It can be downright evil with smaller fish, shrimp, etc. Keep it with larger, tough fish and it should do fine though.

i bring those in from time to time. they are very hardy and very pretty. The one pictured is a female. Males are almost all purple with an orange blotch near the tail. they are aggressive though. I had a male beat the heck out of a fairy wrasse (2x his size) They will do fine with bigger fish (that can't eat them) like tangs, angels etc.

So, I have had mine for about 6 weeks. He's in with two dwarf angels, a tang, a 6 line wrasse, a sand goby, a neon goby, and a small clown goby... No signs of aggression, yet.

He is very secretive though, prefering to stay in a section of the tank were I basicly have a bunch of 3-4" pieces of LR rubble piled up.

Very pretty fish, one of my favorites!

Any update on how your dottyback is doing and behaving ?

We acquired one from a tank buyout of a fellow reefer who was getting out of the hobby. A truly beautiful fish.. but we are worried about adding him to our tank, since we do plan to add a fairy wrasse or two to it, and already have 1 dwarf angel. It is a 380g tank though (6.5' X 4' X 2'), so I had hoped that the agression would be mellowed by the size and amount of rock caves and hiding places.

Any feedback on the progress with yours would be greatly appreciated.
