me trying to introduce a baby maroon to large female, step by step

dann... :) thanks. the lil guy is hanging near the surface, top fin down. but not breathing heavy or acting stressed

his fav spot in the qt was behind the powerhead near the surface anyway so i dont find this alarming.

He is actually going from pump to pump now seeing what he can get away with maybe lol

feebee is acting a lil tired. just chilling in her bta. Im having a tiny heat problem, so im taking that into account. hottest day here so far. both are breathing normal.

I will keep am eye out for disease and stress related problems. the removal of her slime coat makes total sense. glad u mentioned it

If he's doing a little investigation without her going after him I suspect you're over the hump. Never know but as the magic 8 ball would say "All signs point to YES"

BTW: what band?

the anemone is doing better than it ever has. it went thru some really rough times. my fault of course, but it walked for almost 2 1/2 months. its between 4 rocks now and has been for awhile. thankfully.
heres a better pic, yesterdays pics were pretty hurried. :D
And heres some update pics of the baby. I just got back, I dont think anything happened while I was gone, but baby is wondering 5 inches or so from the pump and then running back. hes definatly taking chances lol

dann... the gratefuldead, phish, further tour, then the dead... now.. well, everyones split up and doing theyre own thing and of course it just isent as great. Im mostly doing festivals this year so almost every thurs. thru sun. im gone. after i saw my tank after my first trip, i considered staying home the rest of the summer. dident go so well unfortunatly

ok. pictures !!

don't worry, mine looks the same. fins and all are bitten up, ripped, etc. I am still waiting for the day they will get together. Been a few weeks I would say...

Assumed as much by your avatar but ASSuming is always risky! LOL

He looks OK. tough seeing them beat up like that but he will probably be fine, as long as she doesn't continue to do damage.

she went on another chase a little while ago. baby swims to each pump now. hes got a method. lol

yep. did tour from CA and back 4 times. what a blast.

the difference between a wild caught and tank bred clown is amazing.

this baby fish is swimming in and out of rock work, nurging hermits, totally investigating.
he peeks his head out and looks at the female
when the female sees him, she swims away from the bta just a little and looks at him, and he hides agian. very cute. kinda like peek a boo

the female was tank bred. i couldent get her away from the top of the powerhead at ALL until the bta was introduced

ok. first night. baby is in very plain view. no problems at all. heres a pic with lunar light and natural light on. hard to see. but they are barely 14 inches from eachother

FYI your male clown is in much better shape then my male the first night. Even if things don't work out keep up your reporting because it will help people in the future.

Good luck

fickle.. exactly. I found a few things before i started, but no real experiences without asking

I turned off the lunar light and the baby swam real close to the female right away. the female swam over and they were real close. the baby dident back down at all. but the female dident dart at him or bite. she just stood her ground.

very interesting. a few seconds later the baby swam away, tail facing female and no problems. he sure is trusting though.

just a quick morning note. all fins except tail fin are healed. and tail fin is almost healed but still has a few splits. lights not on yet, just natural sun and lil guy is being very active and curious :)

Glad to see they are starting to get along.

In a previous post I suggested rearranging the tank for the purpose of putting both fish in a similar new situation without preestablished territories, I didn't mean to suggest that there was anything wrong with the anemone. No need to do this now!!

fish.. i understand. it is a method that sometimes works!! I tried it for a dotty back a long time ago. dident work lol

OK. UPDATE :D

Got home from the gym and spied on the tank around the corner and they were sorta kissing. there is ALOT of shimmying going on!!! the female rushes the male then stops short. the baby starts to shiver and they kinda rub eachother.

I tried to feed them. but the baby only took a bite or two and the female wasent interested at all. theres food floating all over and they are def. more interested in eachother. *grins* feeling good about this today :)

WOW. this is so interesting the rest of my house is falling apart lol

Well... I never really thought Id see this, let alone fast... but lil dude is actually building his slime coat.. touching the anemone really lightly. Mind you for every touch he gets, he has to shiver for a LONG time to apease the lady.. but she doesent even let hermits this close.

On an off note.. my anemone has completely shifted itself, and has expanded ALOT... bigger than ive ever seen it.... its also irritating the heck out of some zoa's that I NEVER thought it would reach. looks great... but the zoas are stuck.... eagle eyes unfortunatly.

On to another picture :) babys basicly messing with the same tenicle. wonder where he'll sleep tonight. it was behind a powerhead last night

note the tail. healing quick. was shredded yesterday

Fishgutz -- that's about the worst thing you can do pairing premnas like this. You really want one fish to be completely dominant over the other. It might make sense if you were introducing a potential female into the tank of a smaller fish so that the smaller, resident fish is less comfrotable and less likely to fight back.

Tourkid -- They look good. My guess is he has another day or 2 before he'll be allowed to sleep near the anemone though I could be wrong. Most frequently the smaller fish ends up sleeping underneath the anemone at first, sometimes for a long time.

this is cool, sounds just like the tomatoes I was able to pair up. The best part may yet be to come, when she decided to make the male "A MADE MAN". The female will decide he is hers and drive him to her home where ever that be. And I do mean "DRIVE". it looks just like a round up (get along little doggie). If he isn't smart enough to pick up on her first queues, she will physically push him to where she wants him.

Once done, they will be inseperable and he will be her boy, keeping house, at letting her have all the best pieces of food.

A word of caution... be careful putting your hands in the tank; you will be attacked from now on, and they hit and bite hard for such small fish. Many stories in our local reefers club of blood drawing at the hands of a female clown after she has a man to protect.

Way to go! and thanks for posting, much experience for others to use here. Kevin
