me trying to introduce a baby maroon to large female, step by step

accually its not the female that i have to worry about biting me.. the male(smaller one) will swim right up to my hand once i touch that water and he bit me once! i have to keep chasing him away when im in the tank.. the girl leaves me alone.

Ill keep my gloves on :D she never tried to bite my naked hand, but if i wear orange gloves she darts at them, and if i use tongs by the bta she FREAKS out.

Nothing to eventful going on. ALL DAY the baby has been acclimating himself to the bta and the female sorta trys to keep him out. usually hes at the top just grazing the tips and shes snuggled in the bottom.

Female ate a little, but still not super interested (strange for her) but little guy ate and she dident mind.
take that back. just glanced over. I took a picture. it explains better

Ill update on the sleeping arangments a few hours after lights out. here u go :)

seems to be moving along to fast. or, with alot less problems than i anticipated. Im sure im not in the clear yet (or i should say baby isent in the clear yet) but for as mean as she is, im suprised.
her usual daily pattern has been mostly swishing sand with her tail and spitting rocks.. all day. she hasent done it even once. maybe shes excited ;)

thank you :) Less stress the better!!

Right now the mh is off and lunar light is on.
He is trying like mad to get in the anemone but shes not having it. Think he may try sneaking in after shes resting.

Hes not giving up easy. he wants it so bad lol

Right now hes about an inch away just swimming sorta. she seems ok with that

LOL sounds like he's really trying to woo her.

You might dump in some live brine to try and jump-start her feeding again.

do I buy live brine? or the eggs i see in the stores in lil vials?

Im not to worried yet. she nibbled, just dident full fledge pig out.

plus it was emerald entree.. Ill try her favorite tomorrow lol

you can buy them at a lot of LFS but they usually only live a day or two at the store. It's like cotton candy to clowns. Not really good for them but you know they'll eat it.

cotten candy, hehe, that sound like a good description.

The staple food of my clowns and seahorses is Hikari Mysis shrimp. Frozen cubes. Real good food and everything in the tank loves it.

TOURKID, what is your clowns favorite food?

marine cusine, in the purple box. but i feed her alot of different stuff. mysis, spiralina, broccalli, emerald entree, flake, selcon with it sometimes. the only thing she wouldent eat is squid i think it was. (it was a 4 pack of frozen food, it was like white jelly... i donno.. i wouldent eat it either) lol

its my bed time.. i did a lil look around the tank and couldent find the baby for a minute

hes snuggled in the nem about 2 inches from the female. i think he snuck in.

Im never home when the light comes on, but i am shortly after. wonder if she'll let him stay :)

well its official. hes allowed in her home.when i let in the natural light this morning, im not sure if she was pushing him out or trying to get him in, but they were kissing cheek spines.

got home a little while ago, and they are frolicing in the anemone like they are best friends. both ate, but the female still ate less than usual. Im going to look for live brine on sunday.

pics!

females cleaning her pad agian, and keeping away the hermits lol

my ocellaris, after a year. will not share her anemone. grrrrr! i have the worse luck. well congrats and good luck in the future

i guess this thread is about done. I thought there would be more of a learning thing going on.. rather than.. 'toss in your fish, let it get chased for a few hours, then love forever after'
but i don't see feebee going and freaking out later.. her anemone is her life and shes sharing it, so I guess thats that.

not that im complaing ;)

go back and read the thread again. There was a lot to learn QT, slow acclimatization of the new fish to feebee and good pictures and discussion of how much stress the new guy can be under even in a successful pairing.

thanks dan :) you made me smile agian. I guess I would like to see this thread if i never paired premas before.
Mostly everything I read prior basicly made it seem immpossible and scary. It really made me regret getting a maroon clown to begin with.

I think my acclimation to feebee would have lasted a little longer, ive read 2 days is better than one. I wonder if she would have attacked him the same ammount had she been more used to him being there (not that there was as much attacking as i expected)

I also wonder if seasons matter. like.. dogs and plants and tons more things all relate to seasons. If I would have tried in dead winter.. would it be the same?

I noticed alot of people had bta splits in the spring.....

Gonna look into OSU's marine courses.... Im so totally addicted. and I looove to experiment :D

haha your right. the round up thing is kinda funny.

i guess hes not aloud to leave the anemone lol

she was picking up rocks behind the anemone and he went to check it out. she pushed him to the front and into the bta. he shivered the whole time :)

ive seen that a couple times now. once when he left to poop. very funny

thats what i loved about my old maroons, they would take anemone waste and spit it out in someone elses territory. they were very tidy :)

Yep. My female does that. I havent seen my anemone poop in a few weeks (nightly thing now I guess)

But my girl was so aggresive about it that she was going inside the btas mouth to pull it out. I saw twice her pull out a white string. I changed the bta's feeding time to real early in the AM instead of 6 at night. hoping the maroon would be resting so she would stop it. The health of my bta is improving daily, so I think it helped.

I saw baby feed the anemone before he fed himself today (feebee does this too) Instinct amazes me daily
