Meanest fish

This is more for my own education/interest, but what would you experienced reefers say are the meanest fish - to fellow fish and/or owners.

I've heard Sohals are mean, and those cute little blue damsels. What :angryfire: (closest I could find to a devil) fish have you seen or kept?

Sohals are aggressive once they reach a certain level of maturity. The meanest fish I have ever encountered was a Titan Trigger Fish.

I second the Titan trigger, had one that would chase you around the tank and try and bite your arm, hand, finger... Whatever it could. Before I got rid of him it got so bad I had to have someone else there to distract him otherwise he would draw blood. He was only 8"

Sohals, Clown Tangs, Arabian Pseudochromis, Full Grown Female Maroon Clown, Cinnamon Clowns. 3-stripe Damsel, Domino Damsel.

Lots of people pick on the blue damsels. For as long as I have kept salt tanks (3+ decades) I have always kept blue damsels. They are hardy, they are colorful, with several of them in your tank you don't have to worry if you overfeed.

Steve, did you encounter while diving and have to get out of the water?

Dmorty, what ever possessed you?

I scuba a little bit and have heard stories of Titans attacking divers. And the things can get 2 feet long which is about half head. My gawd.

They are not small, and I have been chased by one for about 100 yards several times. As I carry a camera pretty much always (usually two with one being on the bottom), I used that (along with two strobes) as a barrier. However, one time it took a bite out of my fins which left a mark (I use very stiff fins). I would hate to think about one in an aquarium.

This was 16 yrs ago at this point when I worked at a LFS. Honestly I bought the trigger to cycle the 180g I had at the time. Wasn't labeled correctly when I purchased the trigger and a lot less was available as far as fish and info goes

Dmorty - I remember those days - my first tank was about 20 years ago. Cycled with damsels and felt just awful when the LFS refused to take them back even for zero credit and they were euthanized. Next fish was a Niger Trigger and Ocellaris. It was the clownfish that bit. HAHAHAH

I have a 6+" Clown tang that bites me and tries to slice me with his spine every time I put my hand in the tank. He hasn't sliced me yet, but when he does he's getting the boot.

My last adult sohal was really mellow but outgrew my last tank and my current juvenile is a complete chicken. The most aggressive fish i've owned was my adult queen trigger.

Search YouTube for Angry trigger fish attack compilation....3 1/2 minutes of gratuitous titan trigger violence. One fin is violated...was that you Steve?
