specifically subechinata.

Are they hungry or trying to attack? There are no other corals within 6 inches of these guys, but many polyps are doing this. Stringy/curly things like the are spilling their guts. one end has even launched out to surrounding rock.

my only guess is they are hungry or trying to grow.

I have pics, but haven't uploaded them.

When they dispell their mesinary filaments, they are trying to attack. They will kill the coraline algae on the rocks around them. Basically anything that will compete for space with them.

Echinatas seem to be more aggresive than lords, but both do it.

Here is a pic I took a couple nights ago of my orange echinata searching for something to attack.

They use the feeder tentacles around their mouth to feed when they are hungry.

thanks.

guess it just doesn't like something on the rock next to it, even though it is just rock.

I did move a few other LPS corals around so it may have picked up a "scent" or other chemical that made it "attack"

-edit- nice pic.

Crazy pic man. I've never seen them do that just for the heck of it, maybe yours was just bored on a friday night and decided to go for it

p.s. what is the coral in the upper right corner of the pic?

That's the infamous Red and Gray Acan. It's just really puffed up since it was a night shot.

A little closed up, but a day shot.

Hey Now Randy,

I see your acans look close together. Is it ok to place echinatas within a few inches of each other? Are they aggressive toward one another?
Thanks!

take care,
Jared
