Medicating Wrasses in Quarantine Tank

My experiences with Prazi Pro.
I've had 4 wrasses for 6months to 1yr.
Melenaurous
Yellow choris
Male fairy wrasses (ruby head)
Female fairly wrasse ^

I tank transferred all my fish from upgrading my 90 to 250. After the 1st tank transfer I added Prazi Pro per directions. Wrasses did not like it, but seemed ok. For the 3rd transfer I added prazi pro again. Both fairys went into shock once I added it. The other two where not happy. Fairys died in 3 min. Melenaurous and choris lived and are happy now.

2nd attempt leopard wrasse. Prazi w 1st tank, seemed ok just loss of appetite. 2 tank w Prazi, once he hit the water he started freacking out. In a min he was lifeless and slowly sunk down belly up. Panic to save him I tossed in DT. He lived and is happy.

I think that is the last time i use Prazi pro on wrasses. I match temp and salinity when I TT.

Any chance you are over dosing, or maybe using an expired bottle? I have used Prazi on ~20 Wrasses from 5 genera, and never experienced anything you are talking about. Just curious I guess, since I do still use it for any new fish.

DT is currently fallow for 72 days from my older flawed QT practices but wrasses (Rhomboid, Lineatus, Labouti, Grey Head, Claudia and Exquisite) have all done great through Tank Transfer, and Prazi in QT.

I am a convert with respect to Tank Transfer. It works.

Cheers,

Adam

Yeah, something is amiss here.

Did you perform a water change prior to dosing? If there was any ammonia present when you dosed, I'd expect a result similar to what you've described.

+1

IME flasher wrasses do not respond well to CP, even the minimum therapeutic levels of 10mg/l. They seem to be unaffected for 2-3 days, then rapidly decline and perish. Can't speak for other wrasse genera, but I don't plan to use CP on any wrasse going forward.

Prazipro is fine, as long as you use the recommended dosage on the bottle. Overdosing can cause problems.

I now plan to treat wrasses proactively with Prazipro only, followed by a lengthy 8 week observation period. If I see signs of velvet or crypto, I'll use Cupramine.

I had a carpenters wrasse in QT that was doing great... then I slowly added copper and within a week it was dead. so I will not be taking any chances with the next wrasse I get

Go slower and add your doses over the corse of a day. They do tolerate it IME but have to be acclimated to it real slow.

i added the doses over the course of about 4-5 days. He was healthy too beforehand. I might try again and push it to 6 days to reach the .05 copper or just do tank transfer with them

A little extreme but I had similar issues with prazi, and I no longer use it.

I've lost many seemingly healthy leopard wrasses that were eating good and behaving good all at the tail end of the 2nd prazi dose. Since I stopped with Prazi I had much better results. I think I was about 1 out of 11 treating with prazi. Through prazi in the garbage and I've been successful 4 out of my last 5 leopards. The one loss was a Potter's which are a little tougher anyway. Not sure what happened with him. I think he had a heart attack when the light turned on. Seriously. I saw it. Fine one minute, dead the next.

My latest wrasse qt is this:

Observation for a day or two. Paracide-D which is a one time 5 day treatment, followed by TTM and then into display.

What do you guys mean by tank transfer? Just going directly into DT? Want to get into some of the more rare wrasses and want to come up with a good regimen for new acquisitions. setting up 30g QT now for commencing on working my down the "wish list". What about a big UV with low flow for ich and external parasites in the water column and just a internal parasite prophylactic treatment? Anybody tried the polyp lab stuff? I want to be inducing the minimal amount of stress I feel eating is the #1 goal for me and probably not going to dose copper... Thoughts? Really want to pick up on some wisdom from you guys that have alot of experience with wrasses. This new tank is going to be almost wrasse only maybe a tang.

I'm starting to wonder about prazi and its effectiveness on internal parasites. I see many people post prazi to get rid of tapeworms however I have used it specifically for the purpose many times to no avail, where switching to metro worked. Metro is much much better imo and I've seen prazi mess some fish up, where metro I have yet to have any ill experience with. I have replaced prazi in my qt regimen with metro now. I think prazi is responsible for more deaths than people think, especially in wrasses.

What is metro?

I have three wrasses in QT that already went through tank transfer and Saturday will be 4 weeks. A few days ago I noticed white stringy poop hanging from one, so I decided to treat with Prazi/Metro (API General Cure) yesterday. Today one of them (not the one with stringy poo) is hiding in a tube and didn't come out for the last feeding. What would you do? Remove the meds? Or as long as he doesn't look too bad (just not eating) keep with the treatment for a few more days?

Stringy white poo is tell tale. Also if eating well and still skinny that can be another sign. I had a linespot flasher that showed both those symptoms and I hit with prazi 3 times in 2 weeks. a week later still showing the white poo. One dose of metro and it was gone. I did a second dose to be safe. He was gaining weight well and eating great after that. a few weeks later after being added to my display... He jumped. Despite my full canopy, he still made it out somehow. :uzi:

How do u dose metro?

I have a labouti's wrasse in a 30 gal QT... I decided to try cupramine. I always had good results with it. I added 10 drops and immediately the wrasse went to hide and started breathing heavy. I did 33% WC and added carbon and he's ok.

So, gotta try something else to treat for ich pre- emptively

I always use tank transfer method (TTM) for new acquisitions, especially wrasses.

I'm doing ttm and did prazi on the 2nd transfer with
-red head wrasse
-potters wrasse
-sixline wrasse

The only one that didn't like the prazi is the sixline. He sits in the corner and hasn't eaten yet. I am going to try cp in the next day or two.
