I have set up a hospital tank and purchased API Ick Cure and API Triple Sulfa. Can they be used together? My aging clown fish has ich and a cloudy eye.
The API Ick Cure isn't particularly effective on marine ick. One of the ingredients is also nitrofuran which is an effective antibiotic, so I wouldn't co treat with another antibiotic. Take a look at the first two links in this sticky thread for some good solid info on Ick and treatments that reliably work.
I thought that perhaps a combinational approach is best. We are leaving on vacation in a couple of weeks and am trying to do as much as possible before we leave to get this under control.
The clown has an opaque eye now. There are only a few white spots on her and a tuft of cotton looking thing near her gill area. None of the other fish show any symptoms.
We have set up the hospital in a tub that can easily be moved. We used old saltwater from the mother tank to fill it along with some new saltwater to make up the difference. We have to get this thing up and stable enough to move it to a family members house before we go.
I am using amquel plus to help with ammonia control and an airstone. I will make up saltwater for water changes and ro water for replacement from evaporation.
Does this sound possible? If not what would you do?
The cotton is fungus. I'd go ahead with hypo, and co-treat with malachite green for the fungus. The eye will likely clear as the ich is taken care of with the hypo.
