I purchased what was listed as a 20 polyp frag of zoanthids, only to get them home and find it was a 5 polyp frag. Basic math would tell anyone that 5 is not even close to 20. Thinking it was a 20 polyp frag made me bid a bit more than I would have for 5 polyps.
Not as impressed as I thought I would have been with the auction.
Who would feel like this is a good item to bring and auction off???
Hair algae???
Hexedagain, thanks for your post. And since this is the 2nd complaint I've seen on RC regarding Saturdays Auction, I'm going to make a few comments to all the ORCA members who may read this post. And I’m asking for all of your support to help make this auction more successful going forward.
Number one and foremost is quarantine your corals. The Club is "NOT" responsible for the quality or safety of the frags being auctioned. It's "your" fellow hobbyists and peers that bring these frags to auction and there are those who have no conscience regarding spreading their problems to fellow hobbyists. Just wait until you introduce flatworms or redbug into your tank from an auction... You don’t know the meaning of furious until that happens. QUARENTINE your corals… And I do believe I stated that quite clearly before this and every other auction we’ve had this year to quarantine your corals.
Regarding the corals that people are bringing being labeled incorrectly or misleading people regarding their contents: If… you bring home a coral that was misidentified or clearly “not†what it said what it was, please PM or email me with your member or guest ID number from the meeting and include the coral bag number. I will research the issue and respond back with my findings. This is not a guarantee that you’re situation will be fixed. However, if I receive multiple complaints regarding the same person(s) who has brought said frags, the ORCA Board will take action against the offending member. This practice will not be tolerated. This club relies on the frag auction as a huge source of enjoyment and entertainment for its members. Lying and misleading club members will not be tolerated.
The auction for the most part goes smoothly and most folks walk away with great frags at a fraction of the price you’d find anywhere else. Unfortunately there is some risk because of the nature of the beast. It’s up to you all to help make this auction better. Let me and the ORCA Board know when issues need to be addressed.
Please consider “not†hazing the auction or ORCA on these forums because of a few issues that are member specific. Follow the process I’ve written above and I promise to help improve the auction. And remember, QUARENTINE your corals. Putting corals in your home aquarium is your responsibility and yours alone. Don’t blame others for your negligence or laziness. It’s a pain in the “you know whatâ€Â, but it’s absolutely necessary.
Most respectfully and on behalf of the ORCA Board,
Matt Kantz
