Meeting ideas and suggestions

It has been tossed around by the leadership team that maybe we need to do a few different things with the meetings this year.

If you have an idea you would like discussed, or something you would like to learn more about, or something specifically you would like to do or see, or a field trip you would like to take, or something from a previous meeting that you especially enjoyed, please add it to this thread, or PM Tonya or I.

Comas belongs to the club, not the leadership team. We want to do what you want to do. Let us in on what that may be and we'll try to make it happen.

Paul had mentioned in the meetings that he might have a meeting on building your own protein skimmer and making your own aquarium rock. He said that you could build a very good inexpensive skimmer.

+ 1 on building a skimmer. I would also like to go over some of the Kalk, Calcium, Alk, and PH alternative products that you can use for a lot less. I also really enjoy the meetings when we get to frag somethng up.

Maybe an LED demo.

bring up a small tank with some corals that can take a bit of a beating from the move (zoas, some easy to haul LPS, etc), and have anyone with an LED fixture they can move bring it to show, in person, how LEDs really look. I know that's something I haven't seen much of and am pretty curious about.
Maybe it could be combined with a frag raffle or a frag demo if we have such a thing in the future so the corals aren't hauled up for nothing.

Depending on how the members who own LEDs have them set up, it could be pretty easy or horribly impractical.

I was under the impression that the LT has already decided to have a couple of DIY meetings that included a LED build and a skimmer build. We also plan to visit some of the sponsor locations as a part of the meeting schedule. There will frag demonstrations at some of the meetings as well.

I'd like to see a DIY build of an turf scrubber - for a larger system... (120G +) the practical construction and materials escape me. I read ghellin's recent thread and it picqued my curiosity.

The Jenks Aquarium has a race every year around april or may. All participants get in free that day and there is a fun run/walk (you wouldnt catch me running anywhere unless there are zombies chasing me!) If not the official meeting, I would like to encourage people in the club to participate. Maybe we could have t-shirts made and go as a group. Its very pretty out there and it would get the club some advertising to the Tulsa area. There is a cookout afterwords too. I will link it when they get some more specifics up on their site.

+1 on this. if not a DIY led demo, a simple demo of the pro's/con's and other basic info for those of us interested in making the swap to LED's.
