MegaBite's 180 & Shallow Reef

Thanks for the comments all.

coral_lagoon, it's not a commercial unit. It's a Red Sea 200mg/ hr.
I have it set at 50% and working well. I can smell the ozone so I need to do a better job of getting it filtered through GAC. Trying to figure out the best way to do that on the BK SM250.

THe skimmer production has actually been lighter than before. Still skimming well though but not as you pointed out. I may need to adjust it differently.

Thanks for you input.

I have been interested in setting up ozone into my reef, but wasn't sure exactly what all I needed to get started. Like, is it bubbled into your water color or dripped?

I'm very new at ozone so all I can give you is an overview of how mine works.

You need an air pump, dryer, ozone generator, and ozone reactor. Most people use their skimmer as an ozone reactor. Got to make sure your skimmer is ozone safe.

Air is pumped through the dryer, into the generator, and out to the skimmer. That's about it. Safe dose is usually about 5 - 15 mg per hour per gallon. You need to run carbon to eliminate escaping ozone from your skimmers exhaust so it doesn't get into the main display. You also need carbon where the skimmer vents air through the top to trap the ozone to keep it out of the house.

Water clarity and quality have been better since I started using it so, so far, so good.

There are many informative articles out there if you do a search. Randy Holmes-Farley has a very good one here on RC.

I'd suggest with anything you do in this hobby is research as much as possible before spending the bucks. Good luck!

Some new fish.

McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Pair, female not in picture) Also in picture is a new Blue and Red Wrasse.

Male Anthias (there're 5 females in there as well. One new female I purchased with the male)

I've been eyeing McCosker's flasher wrasses for awhile, but when I brought it up to one of my great LFS guys he said they never looked as pretty or colorful as they do in the pictures. I think you've just proved that wrong, that fish looks amazing!

I love all the anthias too. In that picture it really does look like the male is trying to eye up the female all stealthily.

It really is a great looking fish and not shy at all. Unfortunately, the anthias picture is a little crappy and out of focus but I love how the male really looked like it was eyeing out the female.

I've been using Tropic Marin (regular# since the start. No complaints.

I run 3 MH 14K Phoenix HQI with large reflectors #6.5 hours a day# and 9 Power Brite LEDs #All blue) 12 hours. I stopped using the 3 T-5's I ran for a few hours a day for a couple of months now with no ill effect.

I add 2 teaspoons of Kalk powder to my top off water. I get about 3 gallons a day of evaporation. It's been holding up demand of alk and calcium for about 10 months now. I add Mag about once every couple of months when needed. Check alk and cal every couple of weeks to make sure it's good and supplement with 2-part to get parameters up if needed. Only done this twice in 10 months.

10% WC every week.

I think the key has been keeping all parameters very stable and proper maintenance of tank and equipment.

I'm so jealous the McCosker's Flashers Wrasse is one of my favorite wrasses. Beautiful Fish!

It's a really nice fish with great colors. It's the same fish in your avatar right?

Just putting this in here to chronicle. I think that the question has been answered.

Drunken Anthias? Well not really, but when one of my Lyrtail Anthias started swimming around like this (see attached video) I thought for sure she was on her way out. Turns out that she is still going strong after about 3 1/2 of month now with this condition and no signs of getting weaker or anything. The fish doesn't have a mark on it, eats very well, energetic, and goes about her business with no other issues. I've asked around a little and no one has been able to give me a good reason how this fish has been swimming around like this for so long without kicking the bucket.

Anybody have any ideas on what this can be?

I was given these 2 links from an O.R.C.A. member. Looks like swim bladder it is. It names several causes but I'm guessing it's either the genetic or trauma being that all my other Anthias are doing fine.

The Anthias is still kicking around with the bad swim bladder.

And here's a few updated pictures I just took.

Update:

I just changed the lights on the Shallow tank over to T-5's this weekend. Had the lens of one of the Vipers crack on me causing some of the UV rays get through from the HQI bulb burning a couple acans and paly's. Must of been cracked for a few days before I noticed it becasue my anemones kept moving around which was strange. Should have known better.

Anyways, here are 3 pic of the new light on the tank with only the 2 actinic bulbs on. I'm please with the way it looks.
