MegaBite's 180 & Shallow Reef

Yeah, I asked one of the mod's to change the title due to it being out dated.

Like you're doing now, I also sat back a bit once it was mostly all said and done but it didn't take. I'm always looking for new things to do without destroying the tank or ****ing off it's inhabitants.

I also went through the buy buy buy and more buying of corals but have slowed WAY down and only picking up pieces that really catch my eye.

I did not build my frag tank. Ordered it from Glass Cages. Not the most refined workmanship but it is built like a tank. I do like it. Mine is 12" high, 14" would have been better. If you plan on lots of flow, make sure that the overflow is set low enough to allow for waves so water doesn't push over the top. If I get a little to aggressive with the Tunze 6055's I have in there, they will push water over the edge.

I checked out your thread, very nice! Keep up the great work.

Thank you!

Yeah, I plan on a 14" high frag tank, but only 12"-13" of water.

Mine is 12" with 11" of water. I'd go at least 1.5" below rim. There are tons of rimeless people around here that can tell you best.

A couple of new shots of the shallow tank. I'll upload a couple of top down shots later.

Thanks agian for the compliments.

Here are a couple of top down shots. I still want to do something with the rock in there. It's not where I want it to be in terms of placement. Any thoughts?

None really. My overflow is very quiet and you can't here the Tunze's in there. All the noise I have comes from the sump section in my 180 mainly from the 2 external pumps I run for the returns to both tanks.

Installed an Ozonizer yesterday and the water clarity is even better. I'll report back how everything looks and goes with it.

I started with about 10mg per gallon per hour now.

For those of you with experience using Ozone. Is 10mg per hour per gallon a good starting point? Is there something I should look for to make sure I'm not over doing it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are a couple of new pics and a video. I found a nice piece of shelf LR about 2' long, 8" wide. I incorporated it into the center tank extending a large cave that now runs about 2/3 the length of the aquarium under all of the LR. You can see in the video the yellow tangs cruising the caves. My fish really love all of the hiding places. I've never had issue with any of my fish fighting maybe partly due to all the room they have to swim around and the ability to get out of site easily. Check out the video and let me know what you think. The colors a off on the video, but you can get the general idea.

Update: Ozone
The ozone generator I put in last week has really done a great job. Water clarity is up and the corals and fish seem to be responding quite well to it. I see more P/E from the corals and the fish seem happier.

Is it a commercial type ozone generator? If not, I wouldnt worry about over dosing..

Your skimmer will skim alot crazier. Not to mention the skinmate being much darker and stinky..
