MegaBite's 180 & Shallow Reef

Wow that is quite a feat getting that out in one piece. I had trouble getting a 6" colony out of my old tank in one piece. :)
I'm sure you'll appreciate the added space in the tank even though it's sad to see such an impressive colony removed. Any plans on where you're going to do with it?

Also, some great pics on this page, nice work.

Thanks man. The coral is at a LFS near me now. Not sure what we're going to do with it.

It's called an Alien Eye Bubble Gum. I picked it up at World Wide Corals here in Orlando. It had 2 eyes when I got it and has grown to 10 eyes.

Thanks! You can't go wrong with 36" deep, lots of aquascaping option :)
 
The width is exactly what I like about it. I love the look of all that extra real estate in the front. I think it's easier to make a more natural looking environment.
 
Hey Megabite, is your rimless glasscages frag tank made out of starphire or normal glass? I am seriously considering going with a starphire glasscages 180 for my tank in North Carolina, especially since they would drop it off in Raleigh for me, but I have heard some bad things about the quality of their tanks. The biggest concern is that their normal glass is higher in iron then other aquarium companies and that after a few years the calcium in saltwater binds to the glass to create a cloudy white haze that can't be brushed off. Have you noticed any of this on your tank? I assume if I got the starphire glass it would be a moot point anyways.

How did they do on the silicon seams? Do you like the way they constructed your overflow box and how they drilled their holes? Any other thoughts or concerns?
 
Sorry for the delay in responding Alex, I was out of town.

I really like my GC tank. I've had it for about a year without any issues of build up or clarity. It is not Starphire so hopefully that won't be the case in the future.

The tank is structurally well made and strong. They are a little sloppy with the silicone so I had to clean some of the excess off. There's also and couple of air bubbles in one of the seams in the silicone. The overflow was built to spec and I have no problems with it. I got the acrylic covers which I like. If you go with them, get the black silicone and the Starphire Glass.

Your tank is the nicest 180 I have seen. I hope mine turns out that good someday! =) Do you notice a difference in clarity with your tech tank compared to your 180? I tried to order a 120 tech and I was going to sell my 180. The LFS could not find anymore techs, so I have decided to keep the 180. Just curious if you notice a difference. =) Love the tank. :wave:

There is definitely a difference. Mostly in how the color shows though in my opinion. Regular glass has sort of a greenish/ yellow tint to it so the colors are off when looking through it. The Starphire also has a very enhanced clarity when compared side to side.

Been a while since I've done an update and anything new. I was on the bored side on Sunday so decided to spruce up the shallow tank, take everything out, and add some more rock and sand.

Here are some pics.

Corals, fish, etc. in buckets and coolers for a few hours.

You spent your Sunday aquascaping your frag tank? And photographed while in process. I think your reef obsession is taking over
