I took a couple of pictures of the tank today with the front door open, before the light came on.

Marc, love that little tank! Makes me want a new house, only along with central air it would have a central sump! Imagine it, a tank in every room!:D

Now if only I could win the lottery....
 
There are 4 Rose BTAs in the tank currently. And I just got back from Fish Gallery with some new goodies. :D Pictures to come....

smoothdog, a central sump sounds like the perfect solution, especially if you had a basement. :inlove:

That tank is great with the simplistic lines. No clutter, just one lock line and one return.

So where are the new goodies? Slowing up on us?
 
marc im loving. also wanted to comment that the fan setup you helped me with is working great. tank is running. when i update my build thread ill send ya the link. nothing doing on it right now

I was focused on my 280g reef this evening, and that took several hours to complete my task. First I made some Mudslides, then I had dinner (grilled chicken, chicken flavored rice and mashed potatoes), then some TV time, then finally some RC time. :)

That is why the pictures were delayed. ;)

About once a month, I scrape everything I can reach. The tank needs a little more cleaning, but I really need to do it at night while the anemones are small and the light fixture it out of my way. I prefer the clean background and the animals be the focus.

In reguards to not getting surface skimming with the flow turned up, how is the "skimmer" piece attached to the bulkhead? If it is not glued, I would try replacing it with a pipe with a larger slot to see if that gets your surface skimming with the higher flow.

I would use a new pipe if possible so that you could switch back easy enough. another thought on the same lines would be to use a slightly longer pipe in that place (not sure if it is possible with the tank shape). Also if you cannot easily remove you could take a dremel to the slot to make it bigger.

p.s. I could be compeletely off base but thought I would toss this out as an idea.

How about removing the end cap and adding a 90* elbow? Extend the elbow to reach the surface for skimming while still having the slotted pipe for the main drain flow.
 
If I'm understanding you correctly, it would almost be like a doubled-drain with the upper one sucking the surface clean while the main pipe gets the next layer down. Let me think about that one.
 
OK, the next tank needs to be a Z or lightning bolt on it's side. Use different light fixtures over each long 'arm' of the tank - then you can also see what creatures gravitate to which area of the tank/lighting scheme.

The shape of the tank would naturally create some interesting currents/eddys if the flow went from one end to the other.
