Good ol memfish I would have to say has really bad customer service. I mean really bad yes this is a bashing. I have had a 55 gal. Tank for about 8 or 9 months now and just recently purchased a 125 gal. Off craigs list it came with a sump as well. I wasn't really sure on how to set up the whole thing as far as plumbing goes. What do I do? I go to the pros. I walk into memfish and there is Richard at the front desk I have my sump and a pump with me so that I can ask how and what would be the best way to run the set up. I wasn't asking him to do it for me I just wanted some idea as to how to go about plumbing this bad boy out. Well he ask where I got my equipment from that's his first question. I tell him some guy off craigs list. His response is. Go ask the guy you got it from. In the most nonchalant way. So I say if I wanted to do that I would have but this is where i spend my money and you guys are the pros and thats why im here so i said that's ok I'll get some one else to help me since ur to good to help me. So I go and ask another employee and as I start to get a little help here comes the big bad Richard to say that I just told u that I couldn't help you and these are my employees and they can't help you either. By his time I was royaly [profanity] off I just started going off on Richard about his [profanity] qualitys that he has about himself. I mean this is a store where I spend alot of money on my hobby at I mean I never had a problem from any one else the rest of the staff is cool but this dude is class act. So he tells me to get the [profanity] out his store and I say or what had this dude pulls a gun out on me. I'm serious people a GUN bad choice on his behalf I have filed a police report and I am pressing charges it don't take all that and shouldn't for that matter to just simply give good customer service. I mean kids could have been in there its really sad. But that's ok I'll just keep messing with them good old guys from Kermits Chris I must say happens to be one of the most helpful guys I know as well as the rest of their staff so MemFish gets no mo bizz from me:deadhorse1:

mmm Ive always gotten excellent service from Richard on many things I didnt purchase from Memfish.There have been many times where Richard could have sold me something that I thought I wanted but knowing my tank set-up he opted for my benefit ahead of his profit. I wouldnt have had the success the Ive had if I had done all my shopping on the internet.I love Kermits too.We are very lucky to have such good LFS here.
 
Doesnt sound right to me. Richard has never treated me wrong or said anything in a demeanor that would be hateful. He and his staff have saved me a lot of money in the past with my equipment choosing.

There has to be a "real" story
 
First off, if you are asked to leave, you do so immediately. It is private property. Second, if you got belligerent with Richard and then went to harass one of his employees you should expect him to step in to stop it. They are his employees and he has to protect them. Third, what I know of Richard, if he viewed you as a threat to the safety of himself, his employees our his customers he will protect their well being. This is definately something that YOU should have handled differently.

I agree completely. Sounds to me like you were trespassing after he asked you to leave.
 
There is obviously more to this story. Richard/Andy and the entire staff at Memfish have been nothing but helpful to me over the past several years and I have not purchased my tanks from them. He had every right to ask you to leave the store. However, it appears you did not comply and actually got threatening (per your post). I am sure Richard has a handgun permit, as I do and it sounds to me as if he used it appropriately in this situation.
 
You guys are right about the store I have had nothing but good experiences there with the rest of the staff maybe the guy had a bad day or something but over an exchange of words is no reason to pull out a gun on someone
 
He has always been helpful and courteous with me and my questions. His response to ask the original guy want out of line either, and doing so could have saved you both the time and headache of how the sump was supposed to be configured. Besides, if memfish told me they couldn't help me with an issue my next stop after I left would be kermits... Or to post on here looking for help figuring it out.
 
I have never had anything but a good experience at memfish. I have talked to Richard on more than one occasion about equipment that I bought there or even equipment I bought elsewhere. Sounds like we are not hearing exactly what went down here.
 
Now I'm not for bashing anyone or any vendor, but I just thought I would toss in my 2 cents. My wife came home from Memfish crying one day because she got called a b**** by an older gentleman working there, and was shown the hilt of a gun tucked in his pants. He then made sexually suggestive comments to her and she ran out of there, being the only person in the store. I tried to talk with the police but they wouldn't do anything because it was private property and his word against hers. Now my wife and I are as kind as could be, both going to church and being active in the community, even involved in several local charities. We both work in the healthcare field here, so we know how to deal with all sorts of people, and reputation is of the utmost importance. The only thing she did was have him get a couple of corals out to look at, then say she didn't want it when she noticed tissue recession on the underside. He got mad that he was "interrupted" to show his corals, and then took it out on my wife. I won't let her go anywhere near that store anymore. My wife and I are new to the reef hobby and even considered quitting if this is what everyone is like. We have both spent upwards of $2000 on supplies for our reef tanks at Memfish, and always had good service, so I'm not sure what happened. I've written letters to the owner asking for an apology but never heard anything. Memfish has been a disappointment to me, but I will reconsider if I ever get an apology for the incident. If the club activity picks up and we can ever make it to a meeting, we'd like to join WTMRAC so we can have some friendly fellow reefers in this community.

Jabo...I thought everyone in Memphis was packing heat, even my wife is licensed to kill since moving to the Memphis.....

Nothing but good experiences with Memfish on my end......I am sorry for the two of you that had bad experiences.....

I really have a hard time believing that.Even if you do go to church and work in the healthcare field,or maybe that's why I don't believe it ,lol.

I don't mind if you don't believe me. Hence the use of "my 2 cents" which acted to deprecate the tentative statement of the preceding events. I do go to church in Bartlett every week, and actively lead and participate in services. I work as a biomedical engineer to do consulting work with several major orthopaedic corporations and hospitals. My wife works as a nurse here in town. I realize that you don't have to believe any of this, and don't even blame you if you don't. I just wanted to establish who I am so that you can make an impartial decision on your own. As for me and my family, I will protect mine and my own, and hence will stay away from Memfish.

As far as the rest of the posts, I feel lucky to have so many customers and friends taking up for me, and the reputation of MemFish. Thank You for your support.

Btw off subject. Can you not emphasize enough that you go to church. Does going to church automatically make you a good person????
