MemFish

Richard offered me an apology for the incident with my wife and he and I are exchanging private messages to try to work just what happened in the incident I described (back on October 2010). I don't believe it was Richard who had the gun and who threatened my wife, but someone else entirely (perhaps even a person who wasn't employed by Memfish). It also appears that he never received my letter, so I certainly don't hold that against him. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this, but for now I accept the apology and would happily recommend Memfish to those of the community. All of my experiences at Memfish have been great besides the episode with my wife, and I am encouraged by the good attitude of Richard in trying to resolve this issue.

Can you not emphasize enough that you go to church. Does going to church automatically make you a good person????

I apologize for emphasizing that. I wasn't trying to say that that makes me a good person. I will be the first to admit that I am not perfect, and it is only because of the grace of God that I can be saved from my mistakes. My point was to say that I hold myself to a higher moral authority, and my philosophy (my wife's also) is to avoid confrontation and to only do good so that by our good example we can lead others to God. It would be counter to our purpose here on this earth to instigate others to lash out against us. I humbly apologize if my words were misconstrued.

I don't mind if you don't believe me. Hence the use of "my 2 cents" which acted to deprecate the tentative statement of the preceding events. I do go to church in Bartlett every week, and actively lead and participate in services. I work as a biomedical engineer to do consulting work with several major orthopaedic corporations and hospitals. My wife works as a nurse here in town. I realize that you don't have to believe any of this, and don't even blame you if you don't. I just wanted to establish who I am so that you can make an impartial decision on your own. As for me and my family, I will protect mine and my own, and hence will stay away from Memfish.

Do you mind me asking where you work? I am also in the industry. Just wondering if we were coworkers.

Thank you for communicating with me on this, and I am sure we can resolve the issue quickly.

I have always gone to Memfish and will always go there and Reccomend people to go there

:bounce2:

Btw off subject. Just a tad...
Can you not emphasize enough that you go to church. Does going to church automatically make you a good person????

Does not necessarily "automatically make you a good person", but it is a good start for those "wanting" to be good, or at least better. I have heard others have tried Tunica, but not with much success....

Not starting a riot!

So you bring up possibly the most sensitive topic of religion and then say "not starting a riot".....you do realize you live in the Bible belt and those buildings with crosses you pass by every day on every corner are churches right? ;)

I pack heat and go to church, but not at the same time....I am not sure if that makes me bad or good, or if one cancels out the other.....did I mention I go to church....:D

Richard pointed a RPG at me once

Now that is funny (whether you go to church or not).............

I hear if you have enough clams he will sell you a Colt Coral....(hummm that is pretty weak, but the best I could come up with on the spot)

Haha. I didn't mean to start anything up religiously. So I apologize for that comment.

Btw I think a guy at Memfish said they were gonna cut me with a lightsabre!!

While I don't expect everyone will be carrying a Torch for each other, I think they can pull up a Toadstool and Hammer this situation out.....I think it just Mushroomed out of control. I am sure they will be playing Trumpets soon once they work it all out.

I have been in this hobby for years (I use to shop at Ruby Begonias) and was very excited when Memfish came on the scene. I use to go there every week but now I won't even waste my gas or time to go there. I must say that Memfish is just a big dissappointment. Their customer service is probably the worst I've seen. Richard and Memfish have turned me into a die hard Kermits customer and if I can't find what I am looking for at Kermits I go to the local coral farmers in midtown or I order from Liveaquaria.

there must be a reason why you get back service up there...almost everyone on here has had good service there....i can't think of a time when i don't walk in there and they call me by name and ask me what i need today..

There seems to be so much extremely positive support expressed for the Memfish store they must be doing something right. I would hope that before I publically bashed a LFS that I would have at least given them a chance to hear my complaint and rectify the situation. I am hopeful you have given them that courtesy.

If you haven't, I would suggest that you privately PM Richard with your specific experiences. I would think that every shop owner would appreciate constructive criticism and an opportunity to rectify any wrongs. If he sounds sincere and thinks he can provide you the service you require, give them another chance. If not, it sounds like Kemits is the place for you. It is a great store as well and I am sure they will meet your requirements.

We all will find things we like and dislike about any store, whether it be a LFS or a restaurant. Some of my favorite restaurants are on the worst list of others (how can everyone be so wrong"¦LOL). That is human nature. The LFS that satisfies the most reefers will be the most successful. Having worked in retail during college, I know that you cannot please everyone everyday no matter how hard you try (see my parting quote below). I have things that I like and dislike about each store. I chose to spend 95% of my time at the one I am most comfortable, but I am happy the town is big enough for both!

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time"

Happy Reefing!

I've always been relatively happy with the service I've recieved at Memfish. However, if one of their employees really is carrying a firearm around the shop and is not afraid of pulling it on a customer, than I'm not sure I feel comfortable going in there anymore.

I've been talking with Richard and just thought I'd throw in an update on the person who threatened my wife in MemFish. This person was an older man who was impersonating a MemFish employee, but not an actual employee. I'm not sure why he was doing so, other than he is some sort of a perv who was after my wife. My wife didn't see anyone else in the store when she was threatened (she thought maybe there was someone in the back) so she assumed he was an employee, as he asked her if he could help her and then proceeded to show her a couple of corals. He then got belligerent when she declined on the corals, and he threatened her sexually and showed her a revolver tucked in his pants, asking her to go out to his truck with him. Richard has assured me that this person is not an employee of MemFish. The man was described as 6'2", 220lbs, with short white hair, brown eyes, not balding, in his mid-60s, wearing a white collared shirt and blue jeans. All is well between us and MemFish now and I look forward to coming in and seeing how things have changed. I'll just be on the lookout for the creepy old guy impersonating an employee.

Do you mind me asking where you work? I am also in the industry. Just wondering if we were coworkers.

Sure. I'll send you a PM. This thread is already full of discussions that are not directly reef-related. :fish1:

Sklyer: I doubt the "employees" are carrying guns. IF anyone is, then it is the owner (s). I would think that is the norm for smaller retail shops with cash in a big city. I know if I owned a retail store, and I was an owner, I would certainly have one.

I would worry more about the armed customers.

Dude I totally saw that guy a couple of months ago. I was in MemFish with my wife and she went to go look at something and he came up behind her and made a comment admiring her boobs then followed her around until she came back to me. Kinda creeped her out, too. But the description matches that guy exactly.

I was gonna call and ask if they had any pistol shrimp....
The folks at Memphis are good people.Ive actually done the exact same thing as the OP.It was the sump I got from Jabo.I couldn't figure out how it went together so I took it all up to Memfish.I was given all the information I needed without question.

The behavior described here is totally unacceptable in my store (and hopefully other stores also). My co-workers and I cannot figure out who this person is, but if he is caught in my store, he will be asked to leave and not come back. This is not the type of person that I want in my store PERIOD!

On a side note, I am really upset that someone had their hand in my coral system. That is something that only people who work here are supposed to do.:furious:

I worry about anyone who chooses to pull a gun out to resolve a conflict. I certainly understand if done legally and responsibly, its a persons choice to carry a firearm but pulling it out to get a customer out of his/her store is irresponsible in my opinion and its my choice to avoid those individuals as much as possible.
