Mermaid Stand

I posted this on the DIY forum as well, but knew SLASHERS would be brutally honest in their critiques, so I thought I'd throw it up here as well.

Before I get too far down the road I thought it might be wise to share a few pictures of a stand I'm building. It is for a 65 gallon tank and the frame was built using Rocket Engineer's frame design.

Since the stand is far from being complete please let me know any improvements you would incorporate.

Thats really nice and creative man. I'm sure its going to be a nice piece of furniture when all said and done. What color are you staining it?

Thanks Kego! I wanted to do something a little outside the norm, maybe a stain with a bluish green tint, if there is such an animal out there.

The true test for me, will be in the trim and the doors.

Thank you Damon.

Any suggestions on how to make it better will be appreciated.

So far so good. The construction looks solid and well joined and cut. I don't see any huge gaps between boards and the mermaid looks well mounted.

How big of a tank is going on the stand? Besides the legs did you have any other support on the stand for the sides? I always throw an extra brace in the back portion and depending on the length of the tank one in the middle to give it support there.

Thanks!

It's only a 65 gallon tank, so the frame is probably already over kill, but I do see what you mean about the possibility of the stand racking. I may put a sheet of plywood on the back to eliminate this possibility.

I like it. Did you ask about this in the rocketengineer thread like a year ago?

Yes, you have a mind like a steel trap, nothing escapes it. I just got the time to start playing around with the idea.

Seriously its pretty cool and the blue green will be totally out if the box :)

Are you planning on a sump in the stand?
