my thoughts are definitely yes, but...would like some other confirmations.

thank you!

That's got to be the nicest Mertensii I've seen. All of the ones I've seen are a drab brown color, not so say that they aren't nice nems. Did you pick this one up? I'm interested to know if the tip are actually yellowish orange like in the photo.

+1 on the mertens

Yes, and a very nice one. I'm in Los Angeles and I never see those here. Where do you find merten's?

A year or so ago Reef Hot Spot had 4 little ones (silver dollar size) and one about 8" across.

As for where he found it, I would say "Golden Basket Reef" since that's the copyright on the pics. :)

I would have to say that its possibly not a mertens the bottum of the foot is not typical of a mertens.

Its wierd hey dont usually have blotches on the underside of the foot.

The only way to tell is to give it time to heal and see what the foot looks like. Usually the foot is like a mag where its pale while or cream. The blotches never go down on the underside of the foot

Im on my honeymoon rod and that pic has me going nuts.

The other way to positively id a mertens is that they glow red under actinics.

Top side says mertens, foot has me seriously confused

Shu tin where you at?

Elegence i have never seen out of the 9 mertens i have seen in person have had no blotches on the bottum of the foot. The underside of the foot has been cream or tan. No blotches

If it glows red under actinics that a good indication its a mertens as i said.

Of the 5-6 mertens I have seen in person only 1 didn't have the red streaks on the bottom of the foot. The one that didn't have the streaks doesn't have colored verrucae at this point either. Of the 3 mertens I have owned, I have never noticed any of them glowing red under actinics. Someone(don't remember who) on this forum also said that the had seen many mertens and all of them had elongated tentacles around the mouth. Of the three I have owned and several others I have seen in tanks, none of them have shown elongated tentacles, although that is certainly a characteristic in the wild, its not alway present in wild specimens either from pics I have seen.
So what does that prove? You can't rely on one thing to say it is or it isn't. You have to look at the whole picture.
Click on the thumbs below to see a slightly detached foot at the lower right that is striped underneath and a the bottom of a striped foot attached to the other side of a plastic colander.

Phender, i just got back and took a look at the pics. Then i remember all of the ones i have seem were all collected in the same area.

Two that i saw collected from phillipines after checking out pics have have striping on the underside.

This is either a difference between collection area or remotely possible male and female coloring.

The 7 that were brought in by a place in nyc all had longer tentacles but not drasticlally longer tentacles. The one i bought looked just like this one but not stripes on foot but when stressed they all show the white tentacles stripes.

This one like mine was stressed and not showing its true form.

:bounce1::bounce2::bounce3: Now you've got me excited! Yes, pictures please!!!

Here's a couple pictures of mine. I've noticed the same with tents longer near the mouth. On average, they are about 3/4-1" long, with a couple patches of 1.5", and over 2.5" long around the mouth.

And, here's tonight.

Interesting observation. I removed my LED's a few days ago, and re-installed my 250 watt MH pendants with 14K Hamilton single end lamps. First time it's ever seen MH in my tank (1.5 years). It has grown quite a bit, just in the last few days (obviously from the more intense light), and has really fluffed up, and the color... all I can say is WOW! MH is a major difference maker, in not just color, but in the amount of inflation. It has gained such a rich golden brown color to it compared to before, and I don't think it's done changing. I just noticed last night, when I look at it after lights out, the white patches have gained more white the last couple days. Sounds wierd, I know. At quick glance, it looked like a half dozen clowns in there. I wish my camera could capture it. It LOVES MH lighting. Please post pics of yours when you get it... Now I'm excited too!

Taylor does yours have any white long tentacles.

Yes. First picture I posted shows them starting to whiten up at around 11 o'clock from the mouth. Here's the best picture I could get at night showing the white. Camera doesn't pick up color very well with this guy for some reason. This is a few hours after lights out and it's shrunk down for the night.

I try to attach your food directly too them. I think and am not 100 percent sure but i think they are like a feeder tentacle. In a couple of mine they were notacably longer like 3 to 4 inches
