I have a 95g bare bottom tank w/ 30g sump/fuge. Decently light bio-load but still adding fish. Mostly SPS, so clean water is important. Tank is doing great now, 0 nitrates, 0 phosphates, great growth and new browner additions are coloring up decently slow.

I"m upgrading my prop system in my basement, currently a 55g stock tank with 30g sump and will add 55g stocks as they fill up. Should I move the G3 down to the prop system and upgrade the skimmer for my 95g display or just get a cheaper smaller skimmer for the basement prop system..possibly something like a mini-g... I might try an octopus but I can get a deal on ASM skimmers :)

Keep the G3 on display and go with a Euro-Reef RS 80 W/ Mesh mod or a G2. I love my RS 80 on my 55 w/ 7 fish. Do the mesh mod. it is a must.

I think that a standard G3 is plenty skimmer for a 95 gallon tank.

Seconded.

But a meshwheel mod would never hurt.

How do you think overskimming is bad...just wondering, especially with BB

I think you could use the G3 but why not upgrade to a bigger nicer skimmer....it cant hurt

Skimmer is great, but Overskimming is also bad for your tank IMO

IMO, just means I can feed heavier...helping growth of fish and coral that can use available food.

I think overskimming is just another way of saying underfeeding. And according to most coral biologists, thats bad.

then those coral biologist have never tried keeping a 120g in home sps reef tank clean and stable..........

jk:D im sure some have

I had a G3 on my SPS tank i was not happy with water quality, really really thought over the skimmer upgrade and I am so happy i got a Deltec, and my tank has been so much nicer since the upgrade, so if you can swing it i would look at a Deltec.

So its kinda like ...over skim and then put it back ... :D :D

You could also taking other benificial stuff that your corals need out of the water that you dont know about ...
