metal halide screw in bulbs

That will be a very yellow light with a 4000K color rating. Besides that you would have to find out if they have the same or similar PAR. They would be O.K. if they did I guess, but I am not 100% on that.
 
I don't think you can just screw those into a normal fixture and have them light. Looks just like a SE metal halide bulb with a smaller mogul.

They still need a ballast and at that price you are better off with a bulb marketed for reef tanks.
 
In the future you should post the link to the exact product, that way people will be able to give more accurate advice/info.
 
No, that bulb can not be just screwed into a incandescent socket. The only similarity it bears to an incandescent bulb is the medium base. You got me excited though.

I used those bulbs before. I bought them by mistake. They do need a ballast and since I had a mogul base I had to find a converter from the medium base they take to the mogule base I had. I did find them and after all that the bulbs looked horrible and the corals didn't seem to do to well with them.
