MH Bulbs

MH bulbs and supplies are literally getting harder to find daily. Here’s a couple places I’ve found but haven’t bought from since I have enough bulbs to last me for over 12 years.

Most companies that made MH bulbs have discontinued making them. I’m pretty sure the only ones manufacturing them at this time are Chinese knockoffs.

OK there is this new company.
Rumored to be a spinoff from Hamilton(ex-employee) and selling bulbs made from the same people who supplied Hamilton. Whoever that is.
YMMV..

Giesemann Germany selling Mhi bulbs and have nice choice.
I purchased light and get 1 250 W included.
There is many shops in Europe and Giesemann deliver to US as well + postage + custom parasiting tax ;)

Or maybe they have some im sure US shop agreement as I see Giesemann selling a lot in US as its top quality brand for MHI as was in late 90' Arcadia UK...

More gossip ..
Radium confirmed the production for both types (250W and 400W) will continue for the time being.

Always be suspicious of words like " for the time being".

I've got an email from Radium on March 18, 2024. Simple as that.

Nice and not too bad of pricing.
Yup. The new company, Aqua Bright Solutions, is owned by Dave and Alejandra, 2 former Hamilton employees. They have been known, specially Dave, for the excellent customer service and now continuing to provide the same quality bulbs and service. We, metal halide uses, are proud of their effort to continue making halide lamps available. There is a possibility for the company to extend and make new fixtures and ballasts. That will most likely depend on the demand.

Friend last month from WA Camano Island to Europe sent me 2 big box with
6 kg each Volvo XC90 headlights in original Volvo box and he paid 230 $.
Few good embalage box protected from wild postage courier animals
throwing boxes cant cost so much with few Bulbs.

Im writing this as one headlight assembly inside the lamp was broken
not plastic transparent outside plastic but inside
must be that someone throwing boxes as its come from France to Sweden
than from Sweden to US and again back to Europe...and now broken. Grrrrrr

You can check how much they ask for postage and if is under 150 Euro no custom fees
of parasites how I call this bastardos. :)

Anyway if anyone need i can order and repacking better allways to help important
that bulb came without damage.

I’ve been running the same radium 250s for over 3 years now, when should I change them?
I used to change my MH bulbs about every 12-14 month's and my VHO or T5 every 6-8 months. I would order a few sets and put them away if they are still available.

@griss how often are you changing your MH bulbs these days? Been many years since having my MH/T5 fixtures. Lord knows I miss that set up!

I switched to LED a while back. When I was using MH, it would depend on the brand. When I ran 250w 6500k Iwasakis combined with 400w Radiums, I changed them out at the 18 month mark. Same with Ushios. With cheaper brands, XMs, etc I changed them every 9-10 months as the color seemed to shift about that time.

The florescent do need to be changed out every 9-12 months but the halides fun a very long time. I think the 9 month replacement idea was from lighting distributors . I still haven't changed those lamps
