Well I've finally had a little more time to diag why my halide will only stay dim. I took the cover off my ballast and found the capacitor is split and somthing oozed out of it. I assume this is not right . Any way are there any electronic people out there that can tell me how to get a capacitor for a m80 ballast ( running 250 hqi bulb) ? I'll try to be in contact with coralife if I can.

You can contact an electrical distributor in your area, notify them of your current ballast M80 and you should be able to obtain one from their warehouse or use the online place that I use then you know you will get what you want www.hellolights.com/caform80mahq.html

cool I orderd the one from hellolights. I will contact an electrical supplier tomorrow. We may have a book at work that may have them. I want to be sure I can get it back on line asap as I'm sure my sps dosn't app. not having light. Anyone know what it is that squeezed out of this thing and why?

Most have an oil substance for cooling, but different manufactures may use others, some of the capacitors are just not as well assy and that can even be from the same manuf. , you may have a problem but not likely and you can swap the caps

I dunno looks almost like lead.
I assume that the wires coming from the capacitor do not get connected in any certain way. I see no indication on the wires. They (white from capacitor) both go the a blue wires on the ballast.

I imagine that there is more than one capacitor in your fixture. Look at them to make sure that they are not swollen up?
The wires can be usually hooked up either way. Unless the have indicators on the capacitor or the wires, and this is not common with the ballast hook ups.

You'll need one 20 uF capacitor, HID rated is preferred, but I've used motor run capacitors before as well, but they can't get as hot. Just make sure it has the same voltage rating or higher (350 Vac in your case). You can sometimes find them on ebay, through electrical supply distributors, or online. There is no polarity to these capacitors, so hook up isn't important, so long as it is connected as it was originally. HTH and expands your options, but supertech's advice is spot on.
