So far so good for me. My hood is closed to the wall on the sides but open about 5" at the bottom in the back and 2/3 of the top is open across the back(2 areas 5"x24"). and my bulbs are about 15" from the water. The only fan I have is a small 6" desk top for now but I hope to get some good fans on it when I get back home.

I wouldn't guess it was shipping stress. They are listed as extremely difficult to keep by every source you will find for them. You like to buy the hard fish
