MH Retro Hood Clearance

I'm interested in the PFO 250watt Dual - 10K Metal Halide Retro Kit for my 220Gal pentagon tank with a 8" hood. I've some question:

1) How much clearance (height) do you need to install the MH Retro have a 8" hood and have 5.5" of clearance inside.

2) I plan to install it right on top of the tank opening (17"x9") and was told to put something inbetween the bulb and the water. What is the best thing to go between? Glass? how thick?

3) Can I just screw the Retro kit onto the my oak hood or should I put something inbetween for the heat?

Thanks

Justin

Hi Justin,

5.5" is going to be pretty close to the water for your bulbs. I would try and get them up higher if this is at all possible? Try and get the lamps up to 7" or 8" off the surface of the water.

It is not a must to run a piece of glass inbetween the lamps and your water, however it will help out if you are not going to be able to get them pulled up any higher. Any glass from a glass shop would be fine, however tempered seems to work pretty well, and nothing extremely thick.

You should be able to screw those reflectors right into the top of your canopy with no problems.

Please let us know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks,
Jeremy
