Mhucasey's SPS obsession

No, just once you mix it up you are supposed to use it in the tank. Storing it for more than a day or two could result in biological cycling in the storage tank per MFG recommendations. Unlike other salt mixes though, you can mix it and use it 15 minutes later without irritating anything.

Matt..... I just found this answer in my AF thread.

I see it as Great News !!!

@Nemodan you can use probiotic reef Salt but after 24h all bateria could die and you will not benefit from this Salt. As about the reef Salt You can use it also like you use IO there will be no difference. What we are say it is not good to keep any Salt for to long because life will start in this water after few days that all. There is not something special in Reef Salt that will not allow you to use IT and other Salt you can. It is a general rule that is not recomended to keep Salt water for too long.

That's good news and makes sense. I was going to say their caution about storing regular water long term would apply to other salt mixes as well but I didn't want to look like an Aquaforest apologist. If you wanted to go with their reef salt it sure is priced right too!:)

ok cool thanks for clarifying
can I ask where you are buying the stuff?

I just realized that their Reef Salt comes in a slightly bigger size than Red Sea mini bucket that my back can handle, is cheaper than Red Sea , and is Prime shipping on Amazon. It also lacks that hippie probiotic jazz you people are trying. :D

... and it will arrive Sunday.

Awesome! It's really inexpensive, and everything Aquaforest that I've purchased has been top quality!

Update:
The tank is looking great, and I have had a real eruption of growth tips since switching out 10 of the 12 T5 bulbs last Friday. At the same time the phosphate value has been rising slowly, probably due to increased feeding for the benefit of the new fish.

I performed the last zeolite changeout in two 500 ml batches a couple of days apart. By doing it this way I may have ended up with less than the full liter of new stones since the old and new were mixed up.

Its a bit early(a little over three weeks) rather than a full four, but I went ahead and changed out the zeolites, one full liter this time, with 150mL old stones added to seed the new ones. Phosphate was at 0.08ppm this morning.

I'm following along with this thread, Perry's thread, Wrangy's thread, Biggles' thread, and about 4 others I cant remember right now, and you guys are all discussing the AF stuff, (Well...Andrew's not, but I suspect he wants to use it, just to "see" if it works on his system), and for the life of me, I cant tell who's posted what and where....

All of that to ask: What AF products are you dosing? I found them on amazon and was just looking into it.

Apologies if this was covered in a page or two prior....like I said, y'all are all over the place and I cant keep track.

Thanks

Matt, I'm curious what your nitrate levels are at. Also are you running GFO?

Nitrate has stayed steady at about 5-10ppm for a while now. I have some Siporax and Eheim media that eventually will probably drop it some, but i really don't worry about Nitrate except to make sure I have some.

Biggles is using Bigglesjuice and Lugols - no Aquaforest.

Perry and I are all-in. Michael W is mostly in- he doesn't dose the Np Pro last I heard. Nemodan uses the salt along with my Canadian Brother from another mother, Matt(Reefmutt). I think Mindy was going to give it a try also.

1L zeolites in a Vertex zeolite reactor

Dosing the following:
6 drops NP Pro morning and night for a total of 12 drops per day
10 drops ProBio S in the morning
Dosed after lights out:
6 drops Coral A and V every other day
8-16 Drops Coral B per day
4 drops Iodium and Flourine per day
3 drops Micro E every day
6 drops Coral E every other day opposite of the Coral A and V dose.

Alk at 7.0 (Calcium Reactor)

Salty supply is the dealer selling on Amazon. [emoji3]

Salty Supply is Deepwater Aquatics which is the only importer of Aquaforest. Some stuff goes to Amazon stock, which seems to be a separate pool of stock from the Salty Supply pool. Amazon stock seems to be mostly limited to 10ml containers. I try to buy from Amazon in general especially if they have the item for prime. In the end I don't worry about where it comes from...

"In the end I don't worry about where it comes from..."

Same here. Salty Supply must have some arrangement with
Canada Customs, as I don't pay duty when I order from them.

The reason I asked is I am also running the full Aquaforest line and I tested for nitrate and could not register on the Salifert test kit. This seems to always be an issue I encounter when carbon dosing. Any thoughts?

I always like to keep Nitrate at at least one or two PPM. I would dose some calcium, potassium, or sodium Nitrate. You can buy from aquariumfertilizer.com(super cheap).

What is your system volume?
