Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Matt,
Colors looking sweet!
So a couple of weeks have gone by, how is the phos-minus going in the tank, have you seen PO4 come down? I think I am finally breaking the green cyano in the tank, I am only using powder form of Pro Bio F and 2 drops of NP pro each day. I did not refrigerate my Pro Bio S from the get go, wondering if that led to the green funk? Not sure, but if it spoiled, I am sure it didn't help.
Hope all is well, I see new corals every time I stop by here, loving each and every set of new photos man!
Best :)

Wow! Really nice. What's that first yellow piece? Amazing..
Love the shot with the monti at the bottom..
Real dramatic changes can be seen now, from when you started..
Pe is also very impressive.

amazing corals Matt!!
thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys, I was especially excited to see that first pic, the selection of colors in one shot is sweet! There are a lot of corals I just don't get to take pictures of, trying to get some new pics along with the regulars.

Perry, The phosphate minus seems to be helping keep phosphate lower, but I'm only using a small amount passively. However, i feel comfortable with it as far as how gentle it is, I have had zero negative reactions when adding new batches. Therefore, I decided I would experiment a bit and give Debora's method a go. Im not loving the Vertex zeolite reactor, and I'm inconsistent with shaking the stones, so i have a new Avast Media reactor on the way. I will layer the zeolites and carbon and Phosphate minus in there and see how that goes. It would be easier to do changeout, just chuck the whole thing every four weeks and refill.

Alk update:
Alk was 5.4 last night, that is rising a little fast for me. I slowed the peristaltic pump by 3ml/min and will check again tonight.

Thanks Matt, that yellow coral is an AquaSD "Radion" - they have another yellow with red polyps there that looks a lot like the Pikachu, Im thinking It would be a good addition. The color is so saturated on some of these pieces its ridiculous and there is almost no algae anywhere(except bubble:facepalm:), and finally you are right, PE is off the charts! I'm very happy with the system, I just bought Zeolites in the 5L big bucket size and some of the other additives in the large size as I will be sticking with this method. This marks 3.5 months without a water change also:dance:

I'm really happy I found this thread. Read through the first 16 pages, then realized there are over 250. I have plenty to read 8D awesome tank, any chance there is a gear list anywhere?

Welcome, and thanks! Well at page 16 I was in process of constructing the dual tanks, so Ill catch you up to where the system is at now:

2 Starfire rimless tanks, one 36X48X16(SPS Tank), the other 36X28X22(Flubber Tank).
The SPS tank is lit with an 8X39Watt Sunpower and a 6X39Watt sunpower, total 14 bulbs. The flubber tank has one 6X39Watt Sunpower over it.

The water from both tanks drain to a common sump and are returned by a modded Laguna Pond pump.

Water from the sump is pumped by a controllable Tunze Silence pump to an external recirculating skimmer, a Reef Octopus Diablo DC-200Ext.

I currently use a Vertex Zeolite reactor with a liter of Stones in it but I will be moving to an Avast Media reactor and combine Zeolites, Carbon, and Phosphate minus(GFO) in one reactor. Im using the Aquaforest system currently, I switched away from using the AIO pellets in December.

I Run a Geo 618 calcium reactor with water pulled through it using a cole-parmer peristaltic pump. The CO2 is fed from an AquariumPlants CarbonDoser electronic regulator.

Top-off is handled by a Tunze osmolator.

The whole thing is controlled by an Neptune Apex controller with 2 8-outlet power bars and one 4-outlet power bar. I also have the variable speed module, pH, Temp, and ORP probes.

I think thats it:p

Really pleased to see you have things heading back in the right direction Matt :)

REALLY pleased

Hey Matt. What's your ORP reading?

If i may Kevin...........:reading:

ORP for those of you who aren't as scientifically knowledgeable as Kevin, Matt and myself is - Orange and Red Potential.

please continue Kevin...........

Yes, this is correct. Orange and Red Potential is a key factor to understand. Particularly when trying to achieve the colour orange in adverse relation to green. The magic ratio appears to be 17:9. But if we extrapolate the data in the reverse order at a ratio of 17:8 (17 being the limiting common denominator) then, we can assume that the outcome will be the colour red. HOWEVER, this is not always the case as displayed in the exponential uptake of manganese through the boundary layer. Suggesting a morph in the genome during the halogen iridiance phase.

I had some questions for you a few pages back but you stopped attending my thread, mighty Lord Acro. I'm using 10 drops per day of MicroE and the cyano is almost gone btw, corals are looking good too:thumbsup:

Hmm. That's what I love about the Internet- so many fascinating facts to learn from reliable sources:reading:
