Mhucasey's SPS obsession

I know their reccomended dose for my tank is 7.5 drops per day, and I know it helps with blues and whites, so I watch those colors, hold the dose for a while, and then try a bit more or less and keep observing. I got the word from ReefVet a while ago that it was a useful element to dose, but I haven't had a chance to focus on its effects yet to dial in an ideal dose, so I'm just dosing at 1/2 mfr reccomendations still.

Just as a small bit of info.. Fanua Marin actually has flourine in their 'Red/Purple' bottle Color Elements...

Triton sells flourine in 1000ml bottles. I have a bottle on Jake Adam's recommendation, but haven't been able to figure out its concentration or a dosage. Any ideas?

Matt,

If you could check out my thread. from post 161 http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24482627&postcount=161

Any ideas? Im stumped and the only thing I can think of is the stray voltage vs something

Try not to worry, that Nitrate test result looks almost exactly like mine. I don't think it's actually that high, but even if it is it's not hurting the reef as far as I can tell. I'd be worried if it was Zero. There may be a component of AF that is creating a false high reading, some people who used NP Pro and ProBioS has high readings that dropped sharply when they discontinued it. I don't believe AF actually pushes Nitrate higher.

No way to know since it isn't one of the elements tested and dosing isn't tied to a specific value. Did Jake suggest a target amount in ppm?

Interesting. Tell me more.

No, he said that he was dosing it along with zinc and boron and getting good results. I thought I would experiment with it myself but haven't yet decided what is a good amount to start with. I was hoping to find a Triton thread about it somewhere, but no luck.

Perfect. Makes sense. Glad I'm not the only one!

I have to admit I was a little scared. And it was coupled with a couple fish deaths so I didn't know what to think. But the Coral all looks fantastic so I wasn't sure

No I have a Mac, so the pics are already on my laptop after I take them because of photo stream. I open them up in "Pinta" which is the Mac Version of the freeware "Paint.net" which in itself is a clone of Photoshop. The same "Autolevel" and other corrections should be in all three photo editing solutions. I used to use an app that allowed me to change the white balance and/or directly lower the blue in the picture but it isn't made for the newest IOS version.

Biggles did a nice little primer on how to fix the blue using this software:

If you have a minute van you specify how to find these? Tried App Store on my Mac and iPad with no success.
Thanks

I just did a Google search for them, they weren't in the App Store. If you can't find it, maybe look for free photoshop clones. I don't use that software any longer, once I got the gel filters my most recent pics do not require any adjusting.

Well right now its just a hunch- I tested the NP Pro and it didn't test positive for Nitrate, so its not going into the tank there, but I know I have enough bio-filtration to bring the nitrate down, so either its high and doesn't matter or its fake and doesn't matter.

Hmm. I haven't been actively dosing Boron, I used to mix it in with my Magnesium additions, but I haven't added Magnesium since last fall.

Update:
Busy week at work, with an inspection going on. Thank god for the weekend! I bought an additional plastic rock for the tank, to fill a large hole in the Family room side of the reef. I did some rearranging and now there is more room for acros!

So this afternoon, I got a new tabling colony to start filling in that space:)

I also picked up a Copperband butterfly and another Resplendant Anthias. The CBB is needed desperately to clean up the aiptaisia that has gotten a little out of control, starting to sting some Acros. Not cool.

This is the new arrangement of the SPS Tank, Family room side:

Looking great!

I'll lean on your hunch on the nitrate as I have never had a problem prior to the AF. Plus the tank looks insane color wise so I'll stop testing and freaking out about it LOL

Your tank continues looking better and better! Those last two full tank shots are looking beautiful. Keep doing what you're doing and this tank will be out of control!

What kind of plastic rock did you get?

We must of thought about aiptasia issues...
I did buy a copper band butterfly fish today.
It is in the quarantine tank for observation for a week to make sure it is healthy and no disease on the fish. Give me a chance to feed it aiptasia rock one by one... Lol

Nice!!
It's a coral wonderland in there.
Looking really good, Matt!
How many fish in there, these days?

Looking very good. Nice collection of acros you have there.
Do you know what the red/pink/purple coloured substance is on the bottom?
I have something similar and have no idea what it is.
