hello all reefers, this post is intended to help all who will listen and not to offend any reefers way of doing things, having said that i have been is this hobby for over 35 years,im 48.currenty i have a very managible 75 gallon reef, mostly sps,i have to say after trying several system designs and ways to manage my tank, the best my current tank ever looked was when i first set it up six years ago with walt smiths figi mud in a 36 gallon sump!wow that felt really good to get that off my chest.that particular system was so jam packed full of life and energy, compared to the lifeless looking antseptic views of my corals on the verge of susspended animation.yes i wipe the glass less, yes the colors are intense, yes i spend a fortune on all the extra additives i have to put back in the tank the ulns removes ,yes the live rock is mint clean, gosh im really sick of this frankenstien ive created....having said that,i will be ridding the ulns, dont want to name the various products,u know them, setting a 150 tank up with figi mud, this combination gave the healtiest results for my animals and ease of use,it took a few years for a quote from bob fenner in his book to sink in,a good water change regime solves a lot of issues,im going back to basics,im not a gadget hater but they can creep up on you i guess im old school wish me luck and happy reefing,..thank u bob fenner and walt smith.

leaving ulns behind going back to mud method best tank i ever had good riddens also the other blogger is dead wrong ther is so much dom on a clear reef get your facts straight.good luck with your mud system you wont be dissapointed

wow David, I would take it easy on other posters, after all this is an international forum ... isnt it ?

also, english is NOT my first language, and yet I could read that just fine ! so if you cant, then perhaps the poster isnt the problem ?

sorry I just find it rude to talk like that over someones spelling or ... given we do not know who he is, where he is from, and if he cared to proof read his post :) if it was a joke then my bad for not getting it :)

to the OP : I would have to disagree about some of the additives that we have today, like carbon dosing ... its almost like cheating compared to the old school, but agree with you 100% on regular water changes ... we should all keep in mind that new methods and additives are to make the good old method better. not to replace them. so like carbon dosing would make a tank that gets regular water changes better.

Sorry boss. The business behind us has flooded our whole building with solvent fumes and I guess I didn't realize just how foul of a mood it has put me in. I'll try to stay off the board until I get some fresh air.

I think the OP was in the same building :wildone:

English isn't my first language either, and I couldn't read that. Also I'm unaware of any language which does not use punctuation.

I guess it's everyone's damn right to write any way they want, but if they want to be read they are well advised to follow basic rules of spelling and grammar. Making sense is optional but helpful.
