Micron socks yes or no?

Need some input please.
Tons of live rock -in an established mostly sps setup-sump-fuge(fill with cheato) stable parameters all is well and thriving(8 months). Initial setup included sump with socks-manily beacuse i was getting annoyed with minimal microbubbles(now all gone) Would it be ok to retire the micron socks now. More work for my skimmer and tha's bout it. I post in this forum cause most of u guys run similar setups SPS oriented as mine.
First I was a little annoyed with d bubbles-now gone-cheato in the fuge takes care of that. Now i'm annoyed with the socks LOL
Anyways any suggestions would be appreciated.
WOULD THERE B ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS IF I DO AWAY W/O THEM?
Besides the skimmer working a lil bit more.

I'm currently setting up a 225 and was looking into setting up the returns to utilize micron socks. I hate to clean foam block filters in my 120 and usually put it off as much as possible which defeats the purpose (traps particulate matter which decays = Nitrates)

I would keep the socks if you clean them routinely for mechanical filtration which is good for any system. If you just use them to reduce micro bubbles and don't clean them routinely (bad for any system) then you would be better off to remove them.

I agree with Shaun.
I have a mixed reef with primarily SPS corals. I use them. I know that they are a pain to clean, but the do perform a function. They are great at mechanical filtration. You dont NEED them. But they are helping to protect the life of your sump equipment (skimmer pumps, return pumps, etc.) and providing additional filtration. WHen I take mine off (to clean them or whatever) I do notice that some debris such as sand and detritus can build up in the sump. You would think that the skimmer would get this stuff out, but it doesnt always do the trick. I say keep the socks. What have you got to lose.

I use them and they are a gift from god as far as i'm concerned. Make sure you buy atleast 4 of them and change them every 5-7 days unless your tank is really dirty, then obviously change them more often.

I have 4 and been changing them bout once a week-wanting to do w/o just experimenting.
thx anybody else?
