Middle school teacher here from corona Norco unified school district (for those that don't already know). I've had some 8th grade ASB kids approach me about setting up a reef tank in the front office of our school. Something nice for parents and visitors to see. They have a budget of around $1,000, and would turn this into a reef club where students would learn about aqua culture as well as the biodiversity of the coral reef. I told the students that I would put up a post in the forum and ask about the possibility of donations from members and store owners in the community to help offset some of the cost. Sponsorship of some form would be awesome! We have all the necessary tax and donation forms, and everything would be done by the books, of course. School districts don't mess around when it comes to money and donations.
We would need to start from square one.
Tank (not sure what size)
Stand
Canopy
Sump
skimmer
Pumps
Return
Lights
Ato
Reactors
Media
Liverock
Fish
Beginner coral
Salt
Rodi unit
Test kits (great science labs)
Etc
So I'd like to see what the thoughts of the community were before we go any further into this endeavor. If there is a willingness to help make this a reality for students, I'll set the proposal up through our Associated student body and get the ball rolling.
Thanks everyone!
