Middle school reef tank proposal

Middle school teacher here from corona Norco unified school district (for those that don't already know). I've had some 8th grade ASB kids approach me about setting up a reef tank in the front office of our school. Something nice for parents and visitors to see. They have a budget of around $1,000, and would turn this into a reef club where students would learn about aqua culture as well as the biodiversity of the coral reef. I told the students that I would put up a post in the forum and ask about the possibility of donations from members and store owners in the community to help offset some of the cost. Sponsorship of some form would be awesome! We have all the necessary tax and donation forms, and everything would be done by the books, of course. School districts don't mess around when it comes to money and donations.
We would need to start from square one.
Tank (not sure what size)
Stand
Canopy
Sump
skimmer
Pumps
Return
Lights
Ato
Reactors
Media
Liverock
Fish
Beginner coral
Salt
Rodi unit
Test kits (great science labs)
Etc
So I'd like to see what the thoughts of the community were before we go any further into this endeavor. If there is a willingness to help make this a reality for students, I'll set the proposal up through our Associated student body and get the ball rolling.
Thanks everyone!

I have a euro reef skimmer hey can have - no pump though. Probably have some other hardware lying around as well

I have a lot of stuff they can have. Canister filter, nets, chemicals, and possibly lights and rock depending on the size tank you end up with and when.

no not completely, I still have my small tanks, for now I have a lot of equipment that I won't need for ahwile

I have a number of different sized return pumps. Once you know the tanks size, I'm sure I have one that will fit your needs.

I also have two of the TLF Phosban 150 reactors.

Thanks to everyone willing to help make this happen for our students. First off, the kids thought it was totally cool when I showed them the amount of support they're receiving from the two forums this has been posted on. Very exciting for them to be participating in something "real world" and not in a textbook. Once they started investigating what's involved with a reef system, they were amazed at the complexity, yet anxious to get their feet wet and get started. I'm having a meeting with the group tomorrow afternoon to decide on responsibility roles for this club. Once this is taken care of, I'll be in touch with everyone to get the ball rolling. This is awesome!
CJR from socali...you're 125 tank is the initial piece of this puzzle. The kids are most definitely interested!

I'll donate a Neon Green Nephthea and Neon green toadstool, and other softies... let me know when ready.
I'm near you.

What is in the pics u posted? Do you have a tank in your classsroom?

Unfortunately I don't think I really have anything left to donate at his time cuz I used most stuff for my classroom tank; and I am prob too far anyway.

Best of luck!! Middle school is a good age to get them involved. Most of my high schoolers are too busy to want to mess with a reef tank, but they sure do enjoy it.
