Midwest FragFest the Good and the Bad & the Ugly

So I an effort to keep improving on the event we would like to get everyone opinions.

What did everyone like? We want to make sure we can keep what everyone likes and not change it.

What did everyone dislike? Don't pull your punches we need to know, so we can improve for next year. If we think somethings need to be better explained then we will try and do so, and we won't hold your comments against you. I promise. :)

Lastly what would you like see next year?

Also let me tell you what we already know:

We had approximately 550 people over the 2 days and some of those were 2 day people. We wanted at least 600 separate individuals over the 2 days, doubling what we had last year. Next year we are planning on getting the word sooner, better, and bigger. Also we ask those of you who came and enjoyed yourselves to help us by posting on the boards and talking to your friends and LFS's

Organization could have been better. Even though it's the 2nd year we had never done anything to this scale and it WILL be improved for next year.

No Call/ No Shows- we had one Deluxe Fragger and 2 vendors, just not show up. Very poor on the vendors part. I won't bash them publicly, but we are extremely disappointed in them and won't have them back unless we can come to an understanding. We also had a LFS back out, but that was due to a family illness which everyone can understand. What did this do? It left us scrambling to fill in the gaps. It was very stressful for everyone involved, but we did the best we could.

Finally I would just like to thank everyone who came out and made this a wonderful event. The attendee's, fraggers, speakers, vendors, the vendors who donated for the raffle, and most importantly my fellow club members who made this event the great show that it was. For all the people who wish to post please just do it in one thread, as I will be posting this in multiple forums and boards. If you have any concerns that you don't wish to air publicly please feel free to PM me or if there there is another board/forum where you think I should post this.

Thanks!!!

Rockford Reefers I've asked Rob to email you asking a similar question, so you can post in here or you can do it through email.

Excellent job done from everyone involved. Also a thank you to everyone who came and participated. It was a great event and looking forward to next years.
The obvious one and a common occurence at these types of things are the damn pa systems. Problem is they work fine at times, and then they can be a real pain. thanks again, Dirk

I thought that the admission price was a little high for one entrance. it would have been better if there was some kind of stamp that would last the day, or a pin that would last for the two days, that way one could come and go as they pleased. i felt trapped until I made all my decisions.

other than that the prices were great.

Sorry you did not realize that you could come and go as you pleased for the level you paid for. If you paid for Saturday swap, you could have gone in and out a 1000 times. Speakers the same. It was 1 or 2 day passes. Speaker or swap.
Most events like this charge $100 or more for the 2 days with speakers, this was $40 for 2 days of speakers. What do you think would have been fair?

I thought the speakers were great. I was impressed with the number of vendors giving free samples.

And I especially enjoyed the raffles.

Considering the number of raffle tickets I bought I think I should be allowed to attend the club's annual meeting, Rob.

The folks who pulled this together did a great job. I heard a number of vendors say they were very very happy with sales on Saturday. I think attendance would have been higher if the it wasn't the first weekend with great weather.

Thanks again.
Carl

well I stand corrected, my mistake. it was my first time going to a swap like this and I just thought I'd post my initial reaction. I'll definitely be going next year (in fact I probably won't by any corals until next year with those prices)

I didn't realize this either. I like the idea of being able to lower the price of admission with some cans, I wouldn't have been able to convince my wife to go for $10. I thought the size was good for the area and the prices of the frags were very reasonable, I only wish my tank was more established so I could have bought more.

Well done
(I've been to several different frag swaps in DC and Columbus, OH Area)

Depends on the speaker and fees, but figure around $800 and up. Some speakers are fee, some are $500, and some are $2000 as a speakers fee, then there is air, hotel and food, plus incedentails.
