Mike's 300 Double-D

That is a very beautiful fish. I love the coloration.

Thanks prop-frags for the info. They really are my favorite fish. Stunning!!

Gorgeous fish.

Thanks guys! We're always glad to help out with info about our livestock. Just let us know.

Mike, what macro algaes do you keep in your refugium currently? And what have you had the best luck keeping and/or growing?

Brett, the refuge is currently full of Cheato. We usually wind up with either that or the Caleurpa (sp?). In the past, we've had much better luck with Caleurpa - the Cheato would always wither away... This time around, we decided to give the Cheato another try, and for whatever reason, it seems to be growing well. It might be that we are lighting it with LEDs?

Thank you for the compliment and for taking the time to post on our thread! Hopefully, you will never need to use that fiberglass container in an emergency situation, but it's a good idea to have something like that on-hand if you do.

Wow, that is an amazing tank build. Thanks for posting all the info, it has provided me with so great ideas for me own build.

Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to read and post on our thread! Glad you were able to glean some ideas from our thread that may be beneficial to your own build.

Mike, would you mind sharing where you picked up those plastic in-line filters from? Or the model number? Cant make it out in the photo.

Thanks

Disregard, I found them. Hengst h102wk

Glad you found them. In case anyone else is interested, here's a link to the site where we purchase ours:

Mike and Terry,
Your careful documentation of your build has helped me and I am sure many others in this hobby design and fabricate our reef systems. As a relatively new RC member, although long in the tooth in this hobby, I have enjoyed following your progress over the past 1 and 3/4 years. Thanks for taking the time out of your lives to carefully depict your success and even your failures. I appreciate your efforts and look forward to your further progress. I have found myself even on vacation checking your site for progress and further news. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for that awesome compliment! We truly are appreciative. :D

We're in the process of editing some video footage we took over the weekend and thought we'd share a short clip of the left side of the tank:

wow very nice. looks great. mine is getting there
video Short and sweet to the point

Teaser. Just kidding, great video.

nice video and build!

Thank you so much guys!

It has now been 2 years (September 13,2010) since our catastrophic tank failure. It feels like a lifetime ago and yet the memory of that day is etched vividly in our minds. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into trying to keep our livestock alive for months on end while waiting for a replacement tank and without the AWESOME friends in our local reef club, we would not be where we are today.

As promised, here's the HD video and we hope you enjoy!

WOW, WOW, WOW, It's incredible!!! I am so happy to see you have an amazing thriving tank after all you have been through. A job very well done. Keep the vids and pics coming.

It appears a few months back you had the CLS & 4 tunze's in the upper corners for flow. Then a few months back you purchased 2 of the 6095 wide flows'.

I have benn pondering these for my new frag tank. 60x32x12 as well as maybe my main DT for some extra flow.

Did they replace 2 other tunzes' or just add. how do you like them? DO you think 1-2 would make great flow in my frag tank?

Lastly are u using them on a controller?

Thanks

Wonderful, M&T !

Nice to see you guys feeding a variety of MacroAlgae, as its an understated, highly beneficial/nutritional feeding practice that most people dont incorporate ...

Your perseverence/dedication over the past few years, particularly during the aforementioned aquarium reconstruction phase, has certainly paid off in Spades :)

Great looking tank! This is what reefing is all about!

Thank you all - your kind words really do mean a lot to us! It is encouraging to hear the comments from our respected peers here. We aim to keep learning from you all, so keep the comments (bad and good) coming.

Also what is that camo looking fish top left corner of your last video?

The 6095's are replacements for the 6055's. We now have all four "high-mount" Tunze's upgraded to the 6095's, running them on the 7095 controller. They are now shipping them with a couple of changes: they've replaced the rare-earth magnets with ferrites (most assuredly a cost-cutting move), and the power supplies have been changed out from the selectable-voltage slider control to ones using these tiny little voltage selector plug-in resistors.

We are very happy with the performance of the newer pumps. They really kick some flow for the small size - the new wide mouth creates a bigger flow pattern which is great, too. The new silicon rubber mounting brackets dampen vibration extremely well, which makes the pumps very quiet, even when running full-out - which is something we need.

I think that two 6095's would be more than ample for your frag tank - and with the variable speed (and electricity consumption), you can dial them in easily to match what you need. One consideration with a tank that shallow, you'll need to have the water level up in order to put the pumps down in the water far enough to avoid drawing air vortexes (ours run full-out, and need to be about 4-5" below the surface), so plan for that.

The "camo" fish is our tomentosus file fish. He's our aiptasia assassin!

For an update, we thought we'd share a few recent fish pics:

quick question again on the 6095's.....
what thickness is your glass and are you using the standard magnets on these or the extensions for stronger grip.

Trying to figure if these will work on my 3/4" acrylic....

Thanks

Ohh and the fish pics are amazing!! So hard to get clear shots of the fast moving suckers!!!
