Not much to say other than I'm sorry that happened and hope everything ends up ok. I know it's easier said than done but try and make this a positive thing. If there was anything you wanted to change about your set up now you can rebuild it the way you want.

So sorry to see this, never like an update like this. In my 20+ years I have had 2 catastrophic failures, good news is the rebuild allways turned out better than the original. Was the failure in the tank itself or from plumbing additions? Hope you get it all straightened out. If it was the tank seam letting go I would double check your stand, glass is not very forgiving, I have seen tanks blow out on stands that are less than 1/8" off level and these deep tanks have a pretty large footprint. Good luck with the rebuild.

Thanks for the kind words... the failure was in the tank itself. We're not sure exactly what happened yet, still trying to manage the disaster, but it definitely was not in the plumbing.

Wow, Mike. I hate reading about this. I'll be paying very close attention to your failure analysis, as I have an empty 300DD sitting in my garage right now. Good luck with recovery, and please keep us posted when you can.

Sorry to hear! Does your tank have 2 diff silicones like my last one did? Black and clear.

Man I am sorry to see what most of us consider to be the worst nightmare manageable. I hope everything works out for you and your reef. Please keep your thread posted about what happens and what was the possible reason for the leak.

Wow. So sorry to hear about this. I hope Marineland does help. Didn't you drill yourself? I bet they will blame it on the drilling that was done. I hope everything works out in your favor though. This is just terrible. If I was there, I would help.

This is Terry posting an update for Mike... :wavehand:

We talked with the owner of our LFS yesterday and he is going to take care of the tank for us so that we do not have to deal with the manufacturer ourselves. At this point we know the bottom seal failed, but not why. We'll post updates after our LFS has the opportunity to come over and inspect the tank and stand.

Right now we're in damage-control mode. Our hardwood and sub-flooring have a lot of moisture in them so we are running fans and a dehumidifier.

One of our reef-club friends has graciously loaned us his 350g tank, steel stand and sump to temporarily house our livestock.

The gi-normous 350 w/it's steel braces is incredibly heavy. We were fortunate to have a number of folks (most from our reef-club) come to our aid on short notice late yesterday evening to help move everything to our house and get the tank and stand setup and leveled in our garage next to our sump room.

The stand is tall enough to gravity-drain into our existing sump (Yay!) and the tank has the same footprint as our 300g which will allow us to use our existing canopy and light rack.

The next step is to get the temporary tank plumbed into our sump so that we can add water and move the livestock over.

We'll try to get some pics uploaded soon.

Now THAT is a very good reef club member! You guys are so lucky, this already horrific experience could have been so much worse if you didn't have the option to get a temporary tank set up so quickly and the fact that it is the same footprint and fits over your sump is almost a miracle.

Hopefully more good luck comes your guys' way on they recovery, and I'll be really interested to see how Marineland deals with this.

i was considering a 150 cube from marineland and never really cared for any tank manufacturers tanks....marineland, aga, usually sloppy silicone work and cut corners to maximize profit. I will now be going A.G.E.
