What a great thread and congrats on the TOTM. I read your TOTM and then had to go back and read this thread. I was hoping you had started the thread from the beginning and you did. it made for a great read. I will say through the ups and downs you both have stayed with it when most would have thrown in the towel.
You wouldnt happen to have the web site for AquaBox would you? Ive searched and searched.
Also on Page 53 the 3ed and 7th photos you posted of the fish, what kind of fish are they?
Thanks and the best regards.
Thank You so much for the compliments and for taking the time to participate in our thread! To answer your questions, Here's a link to the AquaBox facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/aquabox/463801417068669 and to their website:
http://www.aquaboxaquarium.com
On page 53, the 3rd fish is our male Bellus Angelfish and the 7th is our female M. bipartitus leopard wrasse.
What a way to ring in the new year with one of the most deserving TOTM! Congratulations!
Alex, Thank you so much!
One thing I was wondering about in your ROTM article and here in the thread - you have not really made it clear who is doing the work on the choices, planning and execution. Is it, for example, 99% your own efforts with with either bemused or grudging allowance from your spouse, or is this truly a 50/50 division of efforts.
If it is a true split in efforts, perhaps you could talk a bit about getting one's spouse as interested as you are in a tank to be able to not only get into the hobby, but to keep at it as doggedly as you have over the years. It seems to me there must have been some worthwhile lessons along the way on keeping both partners involved.
Thx,

Hahah Dave. I would say we are a 50/50 team, but over the past 2 years, with my job taking up so much of my free time, Terry has stepped up and taken over in regards to the majority of our livestock purchases - corals included. She does, at least for the most part, (cough, cough) consult me on the big dollar purchases, (cough).
There are still times that her maximum spending limit for something doesn't coincide with mine and in those instances she usually reminds me that I should be thankful that she's not spending the money on shoes or purses, LOL. Sometimes I do wonder, however, if the shoes just might be cheaper...
She has also taken over most of the day-to-day tank maintenance (water changes, filter socks, skimmer cup cleaning, gfo replacement and the like) which has helped tremendously.
As for getting a SO involved in this hobby, the best advice we can give is to find something that they can be truly passionate about - ie. a particular fish or coral. Terry started out with a passion for fish and her love of the hobby grew from there. She also has an aesthetic eye so I enlisted her help with our aquascape.
This gave her a sense of "co-ownership and responsibility", not to mention a sense of pride in what we created. From there, it was a natural progression into helping (and taking over) most of our day-to-day system maintenance.
