Milwaukee Digital Refractometer - anyone use it?

Just wondering if anyone uses a Milwaukee Digital Refractometer. Looks like a couple of places have it on sale this week and I am considering picking one up. However, I don't want to have to calibrate it all the time, unless the process is simple, and it's obviously got to be accurate.

Im interested to know too. I currently use a refractometer but not sure if this if worth it. I have the same concerns as you D-Nak.

Don't need to calibrate it every use. I love it more than the refractormeters. I have a few refractormeters if you want em :) i'll match online pricing haha

I've been using one and it works great. I've heard it's best to zero it out each time before you use it but all it takes is a few drops of RODI. I have two other standard refractometers and it matches up. One thing I really like about it is that it will show in ppt and it's super fast. You just put a few drops of water on it, wait a minute or two for temp to equalize then press the button.

On a side note, one thing I've never been able to get to work right is my stupid Apex Salinity module/probe. The latest support says is that +2ppt is normal for refractometer readings.

Refractometers (all match) - 35ppt
Apex - 37.5ppt

I just ordered a Pinpoint Salinity probe from BF. I hate not knowing for sure!

I've had it for quite some time and, while it's not perfect, I prefer this over other products. The regular refractometers used to give me headaches with its inconsistent readings despite following strict protocol - i.e., use of calibration fluid, light levels, maintenance, etc. To achieve accurate reading, you should wait at least a minute for thermal equilibration. Unlike the ad which says 'just a drop', you want to fill the prism with the water.

I have one and its the truth! Calibration takes 15 seconds. You put a few drops of ro di water on the lens. Push calibrate. Clean it off. Then put you saltwater on the lens and read it. I love it.

Now I'm thinking of getting one lol.. Where did you end up getting it D-Nak? you save more than the 15-16% sales going on?
