Minh's Purple Magnifica

OrionN

Moved on
I got another Magnifica last week from LFS. . When it rain, it poor. This is the third anemone I got over the last 10 weeks. Two Gigantea and a Magnifica. This Magnifica is very small, the smallest Magnifica I have ever seen, fully expanded only 3-4 inches. It came to the LFS the day before very nice color with bright purple column and yellow/green tentacles tips. I traded a bunch of corals and a purple base green BTA for him.
So far he have not deflated. The anemone does have a tear on the face plate and small puncture wound on the column both with mesentary filaments protrude out of the wounds. It was on the front wall of the LFS and I was not able to view him well and did not see either of these wound. Once in my aquarium these would become evidence once I have him attach face up under the light. Fortunately, both wound seem healed over 4-5 days. This AM looking at him closely, I am not able to find these wounds. The mouth is still loose but over all I think the anemone is doing OK after been shipped 1/2 way around the world and change tank several times. I hope I will have a lot of luck with this small, beautiful guy.

Here is a picture of him in the quarantine tank (small Aquapod under 150 W DE MH 10,000K)

My Purple Magnifica is really doing well after about 4 weeks in my tank. He did not do well at first with deflating and inflating, going down hill with each complete deflation. I got him into my hospital tank and treated him with antibiotic ciprofloxacin at 25 mg/gal for 1 week. Since then he have been doing great. No deflation and is getting bigger. He ate several small pieces of fish last week and today. The tentacle tips turn out to be greenish yellow instead of straight bright yellow. I cannot be any happier.

Wow -- great job! Never seen/heard of one that small. Good luck! Do you still have the Giganteas? Are you planning on putting it in the same tank? Can't wait to see pics when it is settled into its home location.

He is no longer in the QT. Now he is in my 30X30X30, a 100 gal aquarium. He will be fed every other day until he is large enough to have an impact in that tank. Need a new pedestal for him also.

What was wrong with the coffee mug?

;)

He got hyper on coffee overdose and move all over the place and won't mind what I asked him to do so I imprisoned him on top of a mountain.

Another nice anemone Minh! Great color in the tentacles. The pinnacle idea has always worked on Mag's for me too.

Wow Minh, that is incredible. I came home today to find that my mag has deflated and hiding under a large boulder out of the light. It has been almost a month and I really thought he was going to make it, but it looks like the end may be near. Good luck with your purple one, he is awesome!!

Didn't your Mag split instead of sick. I though that you got two Magnifica from one that split.

Nice Mag Orion it looks exactly like mine but I keep mine under 10K. If i put my all blue panorama over it it looks like yours under the 14K.

Minh, he had actually stretched himself out so far that there was a small section poking out of some live rock, so it looked for all the world like two seperate anemones. When I decided to move them back into the DT, I carefully removed the live rock and saw that it was still just the one anemone. He was a huge specimen when he was fully inflated. After moving to the DT he looked fantastic for about a week and just within the last couple of days things have gotten progressively worse. It has been one heck of a roller coaster ride this past month, but it appears the ride may be over. He hasn't started disintegrating yet, but I assume this is coming.
