A couple months ago several of us got mini carpet anemones from blugobi (in VanEtten) that Kat was kind enough to pick up for us (thanks again Kat!!). I just thought it would nice to see how they're all doing!
Mine are doing great - the bigger one is almost the size of a quarter:

Also....

1) Gary - they actually stayed exactly where I put them! Oh dear - they'll probably move now that I said that....
2) If anyone has any more that they are looking to get rid of, let me know!

I'm going to wake up tomorrow and there will be no sign of the mini-carpet-nems.....

As far as adding more, I wanted to add some to the new tank and I also didn't know if they come in different color morphs. I'm sure I'll have more soon I just don't want to risk pulling them off the rock :)

Anyone else have an update??

you are MOST welcome, Lizz. Anytime I can help out anyone, I will. Finally getting back into a mode where I feel I have some time to spare once again. (Barb, mspad....you guys are next on my list with the monti's. sorry i've been MIA)

Nem wise, I started with 3. I now have at least five that I know of...possibly seven, not sure yet because the new ones are very, very tiny. And the colors are FAB!!! I also think I may have one or two in my sump from when I kept them all in there prior to distribution. And one did move from the sand bed to the upper portion of the rock stack. Most look like yours, Lizz, with the beautiful yellow stripes, but I do have one that is a morph...orange mouth and pink lines. I'm not sure how this happens, but I am grateful for the variety!

One of mine disappeared within hours, the other has stayed exactly where I placed it. No babies yet but it still looks good.

My understanding is that they are taxonomically the same, I've got some that are pretty big, like 3 inches across, and I've got some smaller ones, only like 1- 1 1/2 across. They also have a couple of distincly different patterns of their tentacles. Some have basically no pattern and look alot like a normal haddoni carpet just smaller, the blue one I pictured. Others have a very detailed "blocks" pattern near the mouth, like the dark blue/ green rim one, I have one that has the "block" change from red to pink every other "block" for a very distinct pattern. With that being said.... the patterns don't correspond to wether it will be a bigger or smaller anemone..... Anyone know if or what the difference is, or do we just know by looking whigh will be bigger or smaller?

Good question!!! The mini's I have don't appear to get any bigger than nickel-ish size. The maxi I have however, is maybe 4-5".

extreme corals have the nicest ones ive ever seen - (im in no way affiliated with them) so if this breaks the rules sorry delete it

I see a few on their site right now, but they have really weird conditions governing their purchase:

ON ANY PURCHASE THAT TOTALS $200 OR MORE, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO PURCHASE ONE MAXI MINI ANEMONE AND TWO ADDITIONAL CORALS THAT ARE PRICED AT $10 THAT ARE NOT A MAXI MINI ANEMONES!! VERY IMPORTANT-IF YOUR ORDER IS NOT AT LEAST $200 BEFORE YOU ADD THESE THREE CORALS TO YOU ORDER, YOUR ORDER WILL BE CANCELLED!!

If I'm reading that correctly, you're not allowed to buy the maxi minis unless you're making a purchase of $200 or more? How weird is that?

Yea very odd..in fact I just called them because it sounded so strange. They said, "You may only purchase a maxi nem at the discounted price, if you spend $175 first." So I asked if I could buy one at not such a discounted price and she replied no.

Anyways, sry Lizz to meander off thread course ;).

I got my mini's from Jaf that came on some nice LR I picked up from him a few months back. They have stayed right where they were, but I haven't seen any multiplying yet.

Not a problem Justin :)
That is kind of a crappy stipulation....
Well, if there's not much of a difference between maxis and minis, I hope mine don't keep growing - my tank for some reason seems to be encouraging for anemone growth!
I was looking at the bigger of the two today - definitely leaning towards silver dollar size now that I look closely.

the patterns don't correspond to wether it will be a bigger or smaller anemone..... Anyone know if or what the difference is, or do we just know by looking whigh will be bigger or smaller?
have you seen the totally red tapetums?

Pattern/coloration can help determine mature size to some extent.

Sprung identified these for me after Borneman and Shimek pretty much drew a blank.

Although they're currently still considered the same species (to the best of my knowledge) I would not be surprised if minis and maxis were named separate species someday.

its just some sale they run -see there down to there last few crap ones right now so they are just trying people to buy them when they purchase other things-everyweek they do something diff like that - i check them everyday im on there email list if ur looking for mini carpets thats the place tho trust me ive only ordered from them a couple times i just like looking at there stuff- ill post when they put more up
