Minimalist Aquascaping

My previous tanks were filled with rock. This go around I am trying something new. The tank is my 180 Upgrade and just recently finished cycling so there are no corals in it yet. No rock touches the back wall or the sides. Hopefully this gives the fish plenty of space to swim around and for corals to grow.

this one is pretty fantastic too!

Update of my softie dominated 150DD. It's a little tough for me to get the right angles, so this is pretty much as good as it gets:

What do you guys think about this? Just got it done last night. It's a 150H with about 90lbs of sand and 100lbs of dry rock. I also have 25lbs of rubble in the fuge.

Very nice, and truly minimalist, as is MarounC's design. IMO, the Zen-like quality of the well though-out minimal aquascape is the source of its attractiveness. Simple and uncluttered designs keep your eye from darting in a confused or random path every which way; instead, they focus your attention where it should be - on the living parts of the reef.

...Not to be a downer, but some of the very nice tanks in the last few pages may be, er, slightly pushing the definition of minimalist.

Here is my minimalistic first attempt.

Just the start hope to get some more corals soon.

What coral are you limited to when the rockwork doesn't reach close up to the light?

The distance doesn't directly cause a limitation, with very intense lights you can keep high light corals at the bottom of deep tanks. It's really about what limitations exist based on the whole setup not merely the aquascaping.
