Minimalist Aquascaping

These tanks are beautiful. Im in the process of setting up a 155G, What ever happened to the 1.5-2lbs of rock per gallon rule. Im glad people are ignoring it and having success !
Are people running more rock in there sump to free up space in the DT ?

I have about 70 pounds of rock in the display and about 30 pounds in the sump / fuge. However, I did start with all dead rock, which is quite a bit lighter then live rock, so I think the whole pound per gallon ratio goes out the window.

Camps23 - I think my first two tanks used that method, but less rock = more space for the fish to swim and less places they can hide from me :). In my new (180) I am running less than 80 to 90 lbs at most. I chose a big skimmer and will see how long I can get away with it. I have a some pieces of rubble in the sump and will more than likely add more so the pods have a great place to reproduce. I also chose dry rock like halcyonism did and the type of rock I think makes a difference. I choose Pukani which is really light and porous so while I may have less rock I am hoping it will be more efficient.

Good to hear!
I hope people are successful. I will be running about 80-90lbs of indo and then another 40-50 eco reefer dry rock. Some of that will be in my sump though. I think a larger skimmer will be key. Also are alot of you running bio pellets ? I think that will help add in the minimal rock/filtration.

Just redid my 40 breeder. Setting it up as a non-photosynthetic tank and this kind of where Im heading. Want to add a little more height to one of the islands. The canyon in the middle looks better in person and once sand is in there should be a nice "steve west" look.
